Who is who:
The girl's name is Stzyakzhch but everyone calls her «Mermaid».
In terms of race, the girl is underdeveloped and would be unable to survive with her relatives (she can't breathe underwater long enough). Her parents left her on dry land when they finally lost hope for her recovery.
When she met Devi (the second character in the image), she was eight and he was twenty. Officially, he is not her guardian, but until she came of age (and even after) he treated her like a daughter.
