Description Dark Phoenix? Storm? Angry Chocobo?

... their new forms are truly AWESOME!!!

Been feeling sceptical with all new forms and interrupting "good old designs" - but with these birds they did fantastic job. And so my dear friend, @sushiartstudio (IG) really outdid colouring that piece by coloured pencils and watercolour.
I did digital colour concept, linear and she did traditional masterpiece. In my feeling, I think we both improved with the colour palette over 3,5 years - more subtle, matured, toned and well balanced.

The original birds 2016

Their new forms are amazing. I can bet that Galarian Articuno is physic/ice type, and Moltres is Fire/dark type and Zapdos is probably either electric/fire or electric/fighting type. Either way i can't wait to catch them and see their pokedex entries.

To me, they'll be:
Articuno- pure psychic or flying-psychic
Moltres- pure fire or fire-ghost
Zapdos- pure electric

That would be dumb and pointless of giving them galarian forms.

Well, that what I think Gamefreak will do about it. It is exactly as dumb as giving senseless types to lots of Pokémon which I cannot explain why. I wish it won't be like I just wrote up there but I won't be surprised if it happens

The Galarian Zapdos looks like a cross between a kiwi, an ostrich, and a road runner. The "regional form" gimmick is getting a little old; It was introduced in Sun & Moon to make up for the fact that they couldn't come up with very many concept ides for new Pokémon, and their creativity has only deteriorated over the last 20 years, hitting a rough spot over the last 7.

While being able to fight with "giant Pokémon" is an interesting mechanic, Game Freak needs to stop introducing new gimmicks for a while, and start reusing some of the old ones, such as the Triple and Rotation battles introduced in Black & White, or the Mega Evolutions and Primal Reversions in Gen VI; that would be perfect for the Diamond & Pearl remakes, with the Lake Trio being able to Mega Evolve while knowing their respective signature moves, and Dialga and Palkia having Primal forms with their respective orbs.

Z-moves and Z-crystals to me are more like "Meh, not really needed."

Sometimes I wonder if Game Freak cares more about money than they do about the fans overall satisfaction, but given the fact that the company itself first originated in Japan, it shouldn't really surprise me; they're so picky that they don't even allow fans to use their own ideas for their games, which is stupid, especially since they've been lacking in creativity as of late. How many more people have to complain about what they're doing before they actually do something right for a change?

I strongly agree with what you're saying.  I say that GameFreak's creativity deteriorated a shorter time ago than in the last 20 years, because since Generation 6 they seem to have been giving new forms to past gen Pokémon than creating a sufficient number of new Pokémon, which is just lazy.  The world could have done without Alola and what gimmicks it introduced, it almost killed the whole franchise.  The rule of thumb is that every new generation should introduce at the very least 100 new Pokémon and not a single creature less.

I'm not sure how much of their laziness is ACTUAL laziness, 'cause it might also be a creative block. Though, to be fair, this isn't the first time they gave an already existing Pokémon a different form; I still have fond memories of Shadow Lugia on Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, mainly because I thought the design was really cool. Then when I saw Shadow Mewtwo & Shadow Mega Mewtwo X on Pokkén Tournament, I was beyond ecstatic because I thought the design variant was awesome. Yeah, part of my childhood refuses to die.

Too bad we can't have Shadow Pokémon in the main RPG series, 'cause I bet the designs would be epic.

I have fond memories of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness myself.  The case of Shadow Lugia is different from those of all Mega form Pokémon and regional variant.  Lugia's Shadow form was intended only for Gale of Darkness, and that game came out in the middle of the Hoenn Era with no intent to introduce new Pokémon forms the way that Diamond and Pearl have.  Both Generations 3 and 4 met the new Pokémon minimum.  There is some creativity in Mega forms and regional variants, but some of those forms were hit-and-miss, and they do not at all count as new Pokémon.

I'm thinking more Zapdos is a flightless bird with very strong legs
It'd jump and run to get around and would use those same legs to attack delivering powerful charged kicks

Part of me feels like they will all be part Dark-type, but they would acquire a unique ability that adds the Flying-type onto their type combination.

  • Articuno: Ice/Dark/Flying
  • Zapdos: Electric/Dark/Flying
  • Moltres: Fire/Dark/Flying

The ability can't be ignored by Mold Breaker.

Okay from right to left I'm guessing Electric/Fighting, Ice/Psychic, and either Fire/Dragon or Fire/Dark...most likely Fire/Dragon.

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

NovaEden In reply to NeonBlacklightTH [2020-01-19 09:47:47 +0000 UTC]

I guessed also that pattern but they have to keep their flying type, I think?

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

NeonBlacklightTH In reply to NovaEden [2020-01-19 09:52:22 +0000 UTC]

I mean they wouldn't have to, maybe? If that's the case then the Fire/Thunder/Ice type would be replaced with the Dragon/Fighting/Psychic types and keep the Flying type, but with how Zaptos is portrayed I don't quite think they'll have the Flying type under their belts and instead keep their base type of Fire/Thunder/Ice along with their new types of Dragon/Fighting/Psychic if I'm right about those types. For all I know, Zaptos could be a Ground type since it looks like a roadrunner and roadrunners are more along in desert or rocky areas if I'm correct?

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

NovaEden In reply to NeonBlacklightTH [2020-01-19 16:47:00 +0000 UTC]

I don't think they would give up on these elemental ones, because in the video, we saw clearly their elemental powers (fire, electric zap, ice shards) though psycho/fight/dark is alternative round up of standard elements (fire, water and grass) so... BUT they could keep levitate ability or flying moves... for example Charizard is originally Fire/Flying and Mega is Dragon/Fire, so probably they will give up that flying type That would be cool. Electric/Ground Zapdos would make really powerful encounter, I think.

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

NeonBlacklightTH In reply to NovaEden [2020-01-20 00:10:54 +0000 UTC]

They may possibly have levitate but with Zaptos perhaps not? And if it is an Electric/Ground type then yeah that would be pretty damn powerful if not OP so that's why I'm more inclined to believe that it's perhaps an Electric/Fighting type...that and the thicc legs XD
