I see it more like a new version of the old movie, like, they used lots of elements that are a new version of the elements of the old movie, like Trip a Little Light Fantastic is a new Step In Time, Nowhere To Go But Up is a new Let's Go Fly A Kite, Topsy is like a new Uncle Albert, Jack is the new Bert, etc...
I didn't read the Mary Poppins Comes (the sequel of the first book that probably inspired the movie Mary Poppins Return, idk) Back book, only the first book so idk how much does it look like, but I'm pretty sure it is better XD
