So up to the last scene is the perception of the character remembering back on the days this involves. Memories of being 6ish winters old for someone 1000s of years old there is going to be missing bits of information. Every line, lack there of, disfiguing of other characters, even missing color has its reasoning.

She recalls faces very vividly. Her father and mother she recalls for example. Yet in one panel her mother is disfigured- this is due to the burn scars taking focus to the point they are clearer than her mother when they are in plain site- the guilt of casing them due to being sickly and having no control over her abilities.

Yet when they are out of site or covered, she's mommy- she feels safe in her arms. Her father she at times forgets he has scars or where they were at that given moment because like her mommy, she felt safe in his arms. He was the first to present this horrifically terrifying ability as a tool, something amazing and beautiful.

Not something to be ashamed of or to fear. . . .he at least taught her how to restrain it until she learned how to control it- he thought he was going to stay around long enough to teach her how to control it.

The older she got, the more details she recalled. When her father stood guard at the door to protect the family-whats left of it. She recognized he was a force to be reckoned with- other adults not mommy cower and fear at him standing his ground. Even respect him, yet he does not yell. He was powerful enough to speak gently and be revered with fear and respect.

He was called off to war just to act as a blacksmith for the army- was not an option, he did not want to go Yet he wore the face to try and not leave his family in despair- he only plans on returning on his own two feet.

Then the scroll marked in the blood of the accused, the condemned. He was sentenced for death for refusing to bend the knee, she thought if she fled without telling her mother, then she would be fine, right?

Homesickness was a heavy burden on an 8 year old, one very hellish night and she wanted to turn and see if what she did protected her mother at least.

Now she knows running solves nothing. Therefore she tends to the grave markers of them.
