Glad this is helping you to see spiders in a better light. Most really are harmless to us. Yes all have venom and all can bite but a lot of species venom isn't strong enough to hurt us.  Tarantulas, at least the new world species, are usually very timid. I've had this guy since he was about the size of my pinky nail too so he's used to me and being handled.

I most certainly would still run squealing if I saw one crawling towards me lol I've never seen a tarantual that was that small! Pinky nail!? That's tiny!!!

Oh yeah tarantula start off life very tiny. You will not see them that small in most pet stores. I got him directly from the breeder at a reptile show. Samhain is now about the size of my palm and really is a sweet guy.

Has he ever bitten you before? That's a random question I know... I'm just curious lol. He does look sweet for a 'creepy crawly' hehe

No never gotten bitten by any of my tarantulas. It comes down to knowing the animal and the individual. Some can be more moody then others, even within a species. And you just need to know what to look for if they aren't in the mood to being handled that day. But Samhain has never had an issue with being handled at all.

No they really aren't. Once you get to know more about them and see they truly mean us no harm they become less scary. most fear stems from misinformation and/or misunderstanding of something.

Awe thank you hun. I am thinking on working on a book of my photography. Kind of an inspirational thing. But I may also look into cards as well. I'm going to start pricing things and see what would work.

Heather-Chrysalis In reply to PaganFireSnake [2013-02-16 15:25:28 +0000 UTC]

I think that is an excellent idea! This is definitely one of my all time favorite tarantula pictures. It's so adorable!

I was also wondering if you could tell me what do you use for a background? I would like to improve the quality of my pictures and try to make them a little more professional and I like the uniform white backgrounds that you and other photographers use...

PaganFireSnake In reply to Heather-Chrysalis [2013-02-16 21:38:00 +0000 UTC]

I actually just use one of those white cardboard project boards as a back ground. With most of my animals being small it works well. However I'd also recommend picking up a nice piece of off white cloth that you can also use. You can find a decent size piece for a reasonable price on E-bay or Fabric/Craft site. Don't go crazy spending a lot on it. A cheap piece of fabric will work just as well.

Also lighting, bright or dark, can make a big different too depending on your subject. It can take me a while to get even one decent photo that I like. It's what makes digital so great. You can take a ton of photos. And download one of the free Photoshop programs like Picasa. That will help you with also manipulating the lighting a bit, cropping and being able to touch out small imperfections.

Thank-you so much for your help and recommendations! The dollar store carries those project boards and I'll look for some fabric...I don't know if I can download a photoshop program since I don't have my own computer-I go to the library to use the computer. But I have a computer friend who can help me with those imperfections. Thanks again!

No prob. Anytime you need any advice let me know. I basically taught myself and of course am still learning, especially with the new camera. I'm always willing to help out others b/c I know first hand how difficult learning on your own can be!

More then likely it is also a Golden Knee or a species closely related to them. They are one of the best T's to own b/c they are known for their docile and easy going nature. And Samhain is a prime example of such a laid back T.
