Description
The Fates are the personification of Destiny as well as the daughters of Zeus and Themis.
The Fates are the goddesses determining Destiny, while the other gods are the executors.
The Fates did not directly play a very important role in the life of humanity but:
• They aided Zeus in his fight against Typhon by persuading him to eat mortal foods that would actually make him lose his strength.
• They also helped Zeus in his fight against the Giants by killing Agrios and Thaos with sticks.
• They appear when Meleager is born.
• On the other hand they were deceived by Apollo who made them drink and they thus let his friend Admetus live beyond his share of life.
They have no specific hatred towards humans and can sometimes let them influence their destinies.
The Fates were three (from left to right):
• Clotho spun the days and events of life.
• Lachesis coiled the thread and drew the lot of each.
• Atropos used his scissors to cut the thread of life.
