Thank you.
There is a story here. I photographed this man last December, I think, near 34th and 6th.
Last week, I was again photographing in New York and at the time was in Brooklyn when I saw that same man. I approached him and showed him that photo on my phone. He smiled andΒ acknowledgedΒ it was him. I handed him my business card and asked him to email me so that I could send him a copy of his photo. Β I haven't heard from him yet....

Interesting to hear. You learn to know odd people when street photographing.

I never get to write the rest of the sentence: I'm not a fan of 3:2 in a vertical orientation, when it comes to street photography. Call it "used-to-media", call it peripherical-view-only, but not a fan. So, to be fair, I rather not criticize, in a positive, constructive, or negative way.

Now it makes sense! Thanks for the clarification.

What Mary said. Great contrast between lively character and dull architecture, and good composition, although I'm not a fan and it's hard for me to comment that. Great light, but I also agree that harder b/w would pop up the fill light and lines.

About the focus, was it manual or AF? If so, don't forget to renew the firmware for better AF in low and high lighs.

Yes, zone focusing. The X100 AF is too slow for me to use, even with the latest firmware.

I use in Manual and when in difficulties I press the AFL, this way I find it suitably fast.

comment: the image has your style, capturing interesting characters in their environment and focusing on their expressions and peculiarity. And I like how this quite uncommon character (look at that hat, dotted tie, oddly buttoned jacket, strange ring and bag...) clashes with the very anonymous and repetitive background of the skyscraper. I think the edit could be done better, I mean that the image lack real black and real white and looks too grayish.
