Description So apparently Quink ink is NOT waterproof. It's worse than 'I wish I knew that before I inked my whole damn watercolour painting with it'. I did a 32-page story in Quink a few years back, and I could have sworn it WAS waterproof. So I will give it another day before I try and lay down some colour, because as you can see there are a couple of casualties already. (Poor Daniel.) I mean, how am I going to give Marius some stonewashed jeans if I can't WASH them??

But I did get some Higgins White down, and it brings out their vampire skin very nicely. And I like how the flat is turning out. So there's that.

In conclusion: always, always, ALWAYS do some tests with your planned medium BEFORE doing fanart, no matter how excited you might be to get your idea down.

Marius and Armand are from Interview w/the Vampire, right? The design of the whole room is great- I like the table, the folds in their clothing, the shelf (those books!) and even the trimming in the rug. Everything looks real symmetrical- do you use rulers? It's good that you're doing another step by step-
I'd be getting a few pointers here

It isn't? I just bought myself a bottle to try out. But I'll probably doodle my name for a bit before settling down to something big.

Interview with the Vampire only had Armand--Marius shows up in successive books, and then he and Armand each get their own. I think The Vampire Lestat and The Vampire Armand are my favourites of that series.

I sketched everything without a ruler, did the second pencil run with a ruler, inked without a ruler. I never do rugs with a ruler though because they're fluffy and ragged, and they just look softer when I don't draw them too straight. Ruler for shelves but freehand for books (my favourite part!)

Also yes, Quink is NOT waterproof, although it's more resistant than Waterman. (Although I love Quink anyway, and check it out--a Filipino invented it! [link] ) You can use India ink instead, like Higgins.

I was planning to just upload the newest stage and update it from now on--would you prefer if I still do each step as a separate deviation? I wouldn't mind, I was actually wondering if all the WIP stages were getting annoying.

Hey that's fine- long descriptions when it comes to illustrations are always helpful. I do something similar in that I prefer drawing certain objects without rulers, depending on what they are. I also want to try another watercolor in the near future; I'm just having too much fun with digital art right now and I never thought that would be the case.

Can you get Quink here, and if so, for how much? Is it better than Higgins?

I can't remember how much it is! Nearly 400 I think. It lasts forever though. I do like it more than Higgins, although it isn't waterproof and Higgins is. I really only like the Blue-Black though. I will post some interesting techniques I've done with it.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I'm ok with it not being waterproof; I heard it's hard to get waterproof ink out of your clothes and I almost always have the tendency to spill things XD
