Edit 1/9/2020 With some nudging from StarsColdNight I've given this a touchup. It's a lot brighter than the old post.

Okay, more roses. This would be my third project done in this type of embroidery (and from this designer), and marks just about a solid year from when I first started stitching my monogram. That is, to say, these roses have been in the works for a few months, but I've only been doing the 3D embroidery for a year. Pretty gorgeous progress if I do say so myself.

My teacher JoAnn (who is also my seamstress teacher and crochet teacher, aha) and myself did this project together, her's has big orangey-pinky roses (melon perhaps) where mine are creamy. Our red and pink stayed the same. I did a lot more gold sprigs and growth behind and she used much lighter green to fill those in. My dark green is darker than her dark green, and so on. Lots of little details are different but essentially we did the same piece at the same time.

As I always do these days, I changed lots of little bits in the instructions too. There's something that wanted doing, where like the petals 'float' more off the fabric... because they aren't fully attached to the fabric? Nyuh?? I wasn't happy with any of that soooOOooo all my petals are secured down, thanks. I changed the instructions' stitch order for pretttty much all of this, too. A bunch of the instructions want you to do the inner petals before the lower petals but, I mean, then you're going to end up stitching over the upper petals to do the lower ones so... ??? yeah I just stitched all my lower petals first and moved inwards/upwards because that makes 100% more sense. All my greenery and calyxes and leaves and so on were finished before the roses EXCEPT for the white bud on the left because that one leaf goes over the bud for all that extra dimension.

Cleaning was terrifying, I left it in the soapy water overnight and when I got to the sink in the morning there was red dye just floating above the fabric like some sort of bloody ghost. Aggghhhhhhh, luckily it was literally just in the water and didn't get all over the fabric. Oddly enough none of the green bled, not even the super dark ones, just the red. And the red TOTALLY tried to sabotage my cream rose, you should all see the back of this thing - the cream rose is like half pink back there from where the red rose tried to consume it.

This is incredibly beautiful!  In the final full view a person can see the wonderful detail!  This is so elegant and lovely!

Thank you, it took a lot (a lottttt) of photos to get this to look right. I still think this one is a bit too dark, but any lighter and the pink just washes out and the detail is gone.

The open roses are just stunning but those in the bud are just They are really something else
I have some patterns lying about where they want you to stitch the autograph by the designer which to me is so weird It makes so much more sense to put in your own

pinkythepink In reply to Mouselemur [2018-01-01 16:39:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The buds are super essential, without them the whole piece would look kind of blah.

I know right? When I'm working patterns (or when I'm converting ones like Mucha's now) I always make an effort to remove the original signature. It sounds super backwards but when you're stitching it if you put the designer's signature in there it's kind of strange, like you're pretending to be them or something.

You're welcome

That was my idea too You don't necessarily claim the design as your own, but you claim the effort as yours
I really do love how you put in your name and year of completion, it looks very natural and logical

Thanks Thriin! It's not quite as complicated as it looks, I promise. Most of it is just satin stitches!
