That has to be the largest southern I have ever seen! I havae dug up quite a few also around palm beach gardens Fla.At the time I was working for PGA national in palm beach. As I worked aroun dthe flower beds I would hoe them up a lot around the grass a lot! Many times they would be no larger than earth worms. I have heard that you can dig them up at golf courses rather easy because the amount of worms in the area. I would find one a week about.

That...
Is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. And freaking cute too.
How's the temperment -bitey, hard to tame, unable to pierce skin, etc?

+ What geographic area (s) can you find these in? It's summer and I have all the time in the world to look for snakes.

There are species of Diadophis found throughout much of the US. They aren't easy to find, though, since they are burrowing, secretive little snakes, and of course, they are SMALL, so they are easily overlooked.

Temperament-wise, they do not even attempt to bite, as if they realize that there would be no point. They have tiny little mouths that would not even be felt if they did bite. They do NOT like handling, though, and I guess if I was this tiny, I probably would be rather spazzy about it, too! They do poop and pee and musk and never stop trying to wriggle free when held.

Wait... Don't snakes just have urates to conserve water or something? Err... Nevermind, you don't have to answer that - I'll look it up.

Again, thanks again and again for all this greatness!

The larger snakes, like Boas and Pythons, and the desert species, have very solid urates, but these little guys have a mostly-liquid urine. It's still more concentrated than most mammalian urine, hence it is really stinky, but it's liquid enough to be squirted out at a presumed attacker with astonishing aim.

Oh, you answered! Good, too, because I couldn't find a bit of valuable information on the subject.
I suppose the little guys wouldn't need to conserve much water, being so little and having such easy access to an abundant supply of food.

What a cutie! My friend found a member of this little guy's species in her pool a few months back. I was SO disappointed when the didn't hold him for me to look at, because it took a game of 20 questions over the phone before I could ID it,
Next to Scarlet Snakes, these are one of my favorite smaller snakes.

That's a cool snake, pretty, and I wouldn't mind having something that stays that small.

These little guys are a pain-in-the-butt to care for, though. He's too small to eat the earthworms that I can buy in any bait shop, which means I have to go outside and actually dig for worms with a shovel.
