I was hearing a lot of bad things of the new Zelda game, SkywardSword, and decided to block all of that, play the game myself and make my own opinon.So I borrowed a friend's Wii to play it....
All I got to say is that it holds one of the bottom places in my list of fav Zelda games...
Did Ocarina set the bar too high? or is people expecting too much?
Nevertheless, I liked it enough to make a Zelda themed fanart.
Hope it looks ok at least, my monitor contrast is all messed up...

This is a weird image of Link, and I like it. Who are those two characters in the trees? I think one is a deku sprout from wind waker, but what about the other one?

OoT was the best but was an exact clone of the Snes linkToThePast so its more accurate to say that LTP was the best

I personally liked Skyward Sword much better than Twilight Princess, which I thought was mediocre and overrated by Zelda standards.

Agreed. BTW, awesome fan art! Reminds me of the first time I found the Master Sword in ALTTP around age 9. Epic!

I thought it's top 6 material for sure! Lack of explorable overworld is too bad but the gameplay is one of the best so far.

I think it was both. OoT set the bar so high that everybody is expecting too much from the next Zelda game.
Anyway... your drawing combines the old games with recent elements (the fairy looking all Navi-like and the modern design of the Master Sword) beautifully. Faved!

I don't believe they've had a "miss" yet. Personally, my favorite is the second one, Adventure of Link. However, I haven't hated playing a Zelda title yet. I think it's a mixture of people's tastes, the tendency to be contrary, and the romanticized memory of a good game. Happens with movie sequels, too.

Ocarina is a 3d clone of ALTTP. Never the less, the fact that this scene sort of looks like the master sword scene from ALTTP more than makes up for it

OOT was the BEST. the only thing that could beat it would be a re-graphic'd LTTP, or a new non-cel-shaded story that doesnt look like ass.

I can definitely relate to you as far as favorite Zelda games go. For some reason SS did not give me the feeling I usually get when I play a Zelda game. Not like MM or OOT, or ALTTP and WW... the art style was just fine (I really liked it, actually), the game play kept me entertained... but for an origin story, I was expecting more. It's still a great game in its own right, but I feel it didn't shine as much compared to the games before it.
Great art by the way. A wonderful homage to the old school Link here. Did a fantastic job with the foliage.
I hope the Zelda for the WiiU brings back that feeling I didn't get with SS.

The series is just bogged down a little too much by the story and new unwanted gimmicks, and terrible travel methods.
This picture here represents what I wish Zelda was more like... except maybe with a bit more color and a less scary looking Link.

Don't know what it is with you guys but I absolutely loved Skyward Sword. I never really thought OoT was all that great, MM is my all time favourite for its mature, dark feel, but Skyward Sword is definitely in my top 5!

Pity you didn't think that highly of SS, it's definitely one of my favs (MM and tWW being my other absolutes)! But to each their own personal favorites~

Love the way you drew Link here in particular, reminds me of the style of the sprites, just brought to life. The atmosphere here is great. Particularly the colors and how close together you walled the trees, makes the Master Sword seem more important and enshrined. Great work! Keep it up

Haha, I always liked the stockier link design. truthfully I like all of 'em but the originals are the the ones that got me hooked on the series. Though I swear, don't think I beat the original Zelda until the mid-late 90s. XD That thing was hard as a lil kid.

I have heared allot of good things about SS. I don't know it really didn't seem appealing to me. I didn't mind Twighlight princess (Minus Minda she urks me. No clue why....) I quite enjoied. Though I think My Favorite of the Zelda games have to be Majora's Mask. Oot was a amazing nonetheless. Anyway Amazing Picture love the look a Links face.

SS was not as good as they said it would be. But I was not surprised. They promised far too much and they did the same with Twilight Princess. Ocarina of Time definetly said the bar too high. People tend to forget the old Zelda games far too easily.

I don't know where you heard bad things and I disagree entirely, Skyward Sword is an utterly magnificent piece of game design. The only reason OoT remains higher in my eyes is simply for it's soundtrack.

I agree that SS is one of the worst Zeldas so far. A good game but not a good Zelda.

I really love the game, but I know it has its flaws. It's kinda like how ODST if my favorite Halo, even though it's not really Halo. Oh, but Skyward isn't my favorite. That spot is reserved for Majora's Mask.

Bottom? DISAGREE. Skyward Sword improved in new ways Zelda fans have never seen before. Honestly, the only people who dislike SS are the ones that let Nostalgia rule their thinking (hence thinking OoT is the best).

Honestly, the only people who say it's perfect are biased hardcore nintendo fans who haven't played any other games of the genre to make an objective opinion.
You think is all about nostalgia? yeah, it could be a part of it, but it's not all.
OoT was a revolutionary game for it's time, no matter if you looked at other games, or even other consoles, it was a perfect execution of all the things a videogame have to had to make it an instant classic. And it's an accepted fact of the industry of videogames. Not just the opinion of nostalgic fans.
Skyward at the other side, it's an ok-fun game, but does not reach that level of a classic for these times that are running. It's what people fail to understand when they try to compare 2 games with an age difference of more than 10 years, you have to take everything to count, the context, the time, the way the games were played.
Not just,"oh OoT is old and Skyward is new, so now Skywartd is better."
