Certain jumpships were outfitted with large terrarium sections in order to provide oxygen as well as provide passengers with the opportunity to see something aside from interior walls. Over time these green spaces became extremely valuable for transporting live plants and other biological specimens across the vast distances between habitable star systems. They were so successful in fact, that specially designed ships were constructed with similar concepts, allowing for new habitable worlds to be seeded with Earth species far more quickly than would be possible starting from seed or embryo.
