Don't know if you still wanna know but Ice Age horses are just the wild form of domestic horses so these would just be Equus ferus.

Yes, it wasn't actually that long ago, only a few hundred generations back put into human respective. All animals living now existed by †he end of the Ice Age, but as you say it's easy to overlook that fact.

Evodolka In reply to Renum63 [2017-07-22 15:24:18 +0000 UTC]

i think it's because you mainly hear the more massive animals Β that were alive then like mammoth and woolly rhinos
but still super interesting to think of

Horses! Those beautiful beings...
As if the image is 3D, that realisitc it looks.
Would these by Pliohippi? Asking 'cause I'm just interested.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Renum63 In reply to Dr-Albicilla [2017-05-07 18:42:09 +0000 UTC]

Β
I guess it would be hard to tell from the exterior (without seeing the animals teeth for example), since we know nothing about the Pliohippus coloration (possible stripes etc). Anyway, it's no, not a Pliohippus, just Ice Age horses. Also, Pliohippus would be Miocene, for that matterΒ Β Thanks.

Yes, the same with dinosaurs and every kind of extinct animal. Maybe they were pink, who knows?!
Aha, yes, that's so. Horse evolution is a very appealing and interesting topic. It's fascinating how they were gradually becoming taller and taller and were losing fingers, one by one through all those ages.

Yes E. ferus, maybe there was no other (subspecies yes, but no other species)? Thanks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AnonymousLlama428 In reply to Renum63 [2017-05-05 21:13:03 +0000 UTC]

There were some proported species around the Urals and Siberia, eg. Equus ovodovi, E. uralensis, E. latipes, E. lenensis, some of whom have frozen permafrost remains, but as far as Europe is concerned, E. ferus is all good.

I must confess I haven't checked the latest on this topic. These are European, anyway.
