Very interesting work - her head-piece is the best part.

I really like this picture ! - coming back to it again and again...
She seems to me kind of ancient priestess or so,
anyway a strong and dignified woman.
By the way,the faces in Your drawings seem to me
somehow a bit similar - are that kind of self-portraits ?

Thanks! I have to admit this is one of my favorites. I'd kill to be able to get those pencil textures right in other drawings.

And nah, they're not self portraits. I just have a problem with getting all my faces to look different. I need to start practicing with different facial features so my figures don't all look so similar. It's always the same eyes, the same nose, the same mouth, and it's getting kind of tiring. I'm glad you and other people are taking notice of that. Maybe if enough people mention it I'll finally get off my butt and do something about it.

Oh, definitely! One of my favorite illustrators is Kinuko Y. Craft, and she's done work for several children's books. I wouldn't mind doing that, but what I'd really love to do is illustrate my own stories one day.

Yeah, my poor characters. I always manage to find some way to hurt 'em. Maybe that makes them a little bit more well-rounded or something. Heh.

I've been trying to pinpoint what it is about your faces that strikes me so, and I finally got it today. They look like they migh be from a long-gone civilization preceding ours, something incredibly intriguing and beautiful in that mystical way. Great work again.

rho-cass In reply to MJWilliam [2004-12-23 23:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I like the ambiguity of her features. See doesn't look as if she's from any particular ethnic group. She could just as well be from Atlantis or Mars for all I know. I've tried to pull off that effect in a lot of my drawings lately, and I think this one was pretty successful.

Buwah! LOVE the brains in the hat tube! Heh.. gotta get me one of those, I bet they'd be perfect for headaches... and frightening away people who came to visit.. *ponders* Yup.. now I really need one

This is my favorite to date. I love the shape of her face... the distance between the inner corner of her eye, to her nose, and how that areas sweeps to the cheekbone. The stroke of the pencil, really works to draw the eye through the image, I’m drawn to that eye first, then up to the hat, then my eye sort of climbs over the rest of the image a bit at a time.. there’s a lot to take in, but I don’t feel rushed to do so, if that makes any sense?

That ... talon, for lack of a better word.. Off the side of the hat is absolutely -wonderful- I want one. Get right on that, will ya? *g* Great work sweetness! It's amazing just how inspiring a couple of death threats can be. *grinning*

*squish*

Braaaaaaaainsssss . . . *cough* Um, yeah.

I hadn't really paid much attention to visual anchors in this one, but from what you're saying the composition must be a successful one. I guess it was intuitive. Drawing an element here, drawing something to balance it there, etc. Glad you liked it so much!

And I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Your threats mean nothing! I own your soul!

*hides*

Either one. I really intended for it to be intestine just to be weird, but I realized that since it's on the head, it could be taken for brains too. I'll just leave it up to the viewer.
