Description People seem to have a lot of feels about this new CBS Sherlock show. I’m withholding opinions till I see it, but, eh. I like Lucy Liu, dunno how well she’ll do in this role.

If I was CBS, I’d have a return to Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock and his almost childlike wonder and glee at the workings of the universe. Also, Joan Watson would still be married to Mary (who looks like Toni Braxton in my head).

I'm not overly bothered about it as long as they give this Joan her own personality and everything. She can't have the jumpers look ¬_¬ I have faith in lucy lui's acting. I know I'm a slash fan, but it's not the reason why I'm saying I don't want this holmes and watson to get together. They're supposed to have epic bromance with subtle hints of being a couple but not really underneath. I don't want any Sherlock show or movie to have holmes and watson as a couple. It works so much better as subtext. Everyone loves subtext :3 I say we give the show a chance. Watson being a woman is certainly new and it's going to be interesting how they do it. While I love her acting and everything, I have to say I wouldn't of chosen Lucy as my first pick. Mainly because Watson is blonde, but oh well :3

You know, I'm a slash fan too and I do enjoy reading Sherlock/Watson, but I don't actually think of the two of them as a romantic couple. I agree that the subtext is probably the most delightful thing about all the Sherlock incarnations :3

Exactly. I think that the series might go well if they keep it to subtext :3

As far as the drawing is concerned, it's wonderfully done. Seriously, I love the style and coloring job. Jonny looks AMAZING in that suit. Ugh, seriously that suit is just...I could stare at his suit here for so long. lol I have a thing for suits and you have drawn a beautiful thing here.

As for CBS...well...I'll just say I'm disgusted about how and when they went about this, and I will most likely not watch anything on that channel ever again...and link you to my journal post in case you want to further read my opinion on the matter. Of course, we're all entitled to our opinions we voice and do not voice. [link]

I agree that the whole Elementary thing is coming across a bit dodgy-- also, Sherlock never actually said "Elementary, my dear Doctor Watson" even though everyone quotes that.

The only reason I'm choosing the withhold judgement on CBS is because I actually liked a lot of what they did in Hawaii Five-0, and honestly I pretty much enjoy all incarnations of Sherlock. Even when they're terrible. That includes the Great Mouse Detective and the cameo they had in Scooby Doo. XD

Yes, I know this fact and just chuckle when it's "quoted." lol

Again, my thing with CBS is mostly how they went about this when dealing with BBC. And The Great Mouse Detective wasn't terrible! ...or maybe that's just my nostalgia talking. Haha! I never watched the original, or reboot, of Hawaii Five-0. As for all incarnations of Sherlock, well, there are times when I don't mind terribly watching bad versions...but most of the time I want to watch good acting. I did enjoy the Guy Ritchie version of Sherlock Holmes, even if they went in a more action direction, but I grew up with Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett and, of course, The Great Mouse Detective, and none of them ever bored me, or made me think, "God, this is terrible...Where's the case so I can put this away forever?" Although, because I recently wanted to WATCH Holmes and Watson MEET for the first time after reading it in the book a while back, I did try to watch a version of A Study in Scarlet with Peter Cushing, and was disappointed that they skipped all of what I was wanting. I did try to keep watching, but the acting seemed quite forced.

Also, was this cameo in Scooby Doo the show? I VAGUELY remember it. It's been ages since I've watched that show...maybe even a decade...or a little more. lol

Yeah, they had a Scooby Doo series, I think it was called What's New Scooby Do, maybe? But every single ep had a guest star (both real and fictional), voiced by the actual famous people! Everyone from the Harlem Globe Trotters to Sonny and Cher to Batman and Robin. It was awesome.

I get that a lot of people are upset that they "stole" the idea from the BBC, but it's not like you can copywrite the idea of a modern-day version. The Jeremy Brett Sherlock for example was a bit of a modern day story-- in that it wasn't the Victorian era and they had telephones instead of telegraphs, etc. And it seems like they're changing it so much that they'll have very little in common aside from the modern-day aspect.

I actually find it kind of hilarious that CBS Sherlock was in rehab in New York? Like, Mycroft was so irritated with him he evicted him from England. XD

Oh! Yeah I didn't watch that show that often...but cool! lol

Oh I'm not saying they "stole" the idea, as you said, it's been redone so many times in so many ways. I don't know maybe it's the way I'm interpreting what I read about how CBS reacted to Sue telling them, "No," that just rubbed me the wrong way.

Haha I actually like that idea about Mycroft going that far with his connections in the British Government! I'll probably watch an episode...but in a way that won't give them ratings.

Totally! I'm looking forward to the pilot, so at least then I can make up my mind as to whether it'll be interesting or awful XD

You're right that CBS was acting a bit like a kid having a temper tantrum. But then, what network isn't a brat, right? Lol.

There are so many ways they could take this. I wonder if CBS would have the cajones to make one of their main characters gay or lesbian. They better have some damn good writers if they expect the show to hold any water.

Agreed. I LOVE the idea of a lesbian Watson, but the odds of them doing are not good.

I have a friend who's been informing me on updates regarding the show. While I don't think there's been word yet on sexual orientation, I have heard that instead of making Watson an invalid army doctor, she's a former doctor who had her license revoked after a patient died on her.

But, anyway, the picture itself is beautiful!

Robinade In reply to MlleRevenant [2012-03-19 19:54:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the license-revoking thing is interesting. I mean, in one way it does make sense, because if she's a full-time doctor than how would she have time to follow him on adventures? Not like the Victorian days when a doctor could choose their own hours.

I'm a pretty lenient person and willing to put up with a lot of bullshit, but if they cut out Watson's military service entirely I will be very pissed.

Anyhoo! Glad you liked the pic
