Description
1. Start with a blank board about a foot longer than you want your sword to be. It needs to be the thickness of your blade.
2. Draw out the pattern for your sword, the guard and the pieces for the handle. (Keep in mind that the cut-out in the core piece of the handle and the guard must be the same size as the tang of the blade.
3. Cut out all of the pieces.
4. Assemble the three pieces of the handle. (The two flat pieces as the outside pieces and the “U” shaped one as the core.
5. Round off the edges of the handle so it fits better and is nicer to hold in your hand.
6. Assemble the pieces of your sword by first sliding the guard onto the tang then the handle after that, make sure that you have the pieces on tight and as close to where you want them as possible. Drill the hole for the retaining pin and insert a pin that will fit the hole snugly but not too tight that you can’t get it out again.0
7. Remove the pin and start to make the handle look the part. (Either add material or remove material to give it the look of an actual handle then paint and wrap it.)
8. Paint the blade and guard, let them dry then assemble as a finished sword. (If the tang won’t fit properly into the handle after painting use rough grit sandpaper and a block to smooth it out and fit better, then “LIGHTLY” touch it up with paint again.)
9. Now that you have a finished sword either display it or use for your costumes!
