Powers: Flight at mach 3.5; size alteration
Jet Jaguar is a human-sized robot created by GDF scientist and robotics expert Goro Ibuki. Goro never told anyone what Jet Jaguar's purpose was. The only people who knew of the robot's existence were close friends Douglas Gordon, Ishiro Serizawa and his niece Maya Ibuki. One day Goro was found killed under mysterious circumstances. Now Jet Jaguar is given to Maya for safekeeping. Soon the mysterious robot's purpose will become clear during the Angel Wars.

Here's my idea:
Maya is somewhat resentful towards Jet Jaguar because Goro spent more time working on it than with her.
Also:
(after seeing footage of Goro creating Jet Jaguar)
Goro: (archival footage) Maya's gonna love you. You're gonna help a lot of people.
(Maya begins to tear up)
Jet Jaguar (voiced by DC Douglas using his Legion voice from Mass Effect): Maya, I know I can never replace your uncle. But try to understand-
(Maya interrupts him by giving him a hug)
Maya: You don't need to say anymore.Â

Jet Jaguar: My internal and external structures are composed of a metal that, when exposed to an energy source, allows for volumetric and mass increase until it is shut off.
Maya:...Uh....
Jet Jaguar: (making it simpler for her) He made me out of a metal that gets bigger when exposed to energy and returns to it default state when that energy is cut off.Â
Maya: Oh.Â

How's this for when JJ is introduced: Maya and Ritsuko are being taken into the lab by Gordon as Maya has been told her uncle left something important for her to take care of.
Gordon pulls the tarp off of Jet Jaguar and Maya goes from shock to disdain instantly.
Maya: Oh, it's just you.

Ritsuko: Your uncle created a robot and all you can say is "Oh, it's just you"?
Maya: I have a history with this robot.Â
Ritsuko: Well, let's just switch it on.

Jet Jaguar looks around for a few moments before stepping off his platform.
Ritsuko: (slowly) Hello. Can. You. Understand. Us?Â

Jet Jaguar: Yes, I can understand you. I am Jet Jaguar. How may I be of service, Maya.

Maya: You can start by LEAVING ME ALONE!Â
Maya stomps off, leaving Gordon and Ritsuko behind.

Ritsuko finally catches up to her, grabs her shoulders and turns her around to look her straight in the eye.Â

It'd be a nice way to separate him from the mechas that are just super-weapons (MechaGodzilla, Cryog!Mecha G's, M.O.G.U.E.R.A., Jet Alone, the Tridents and Mecha-King Ghidorah) or the Evas which are just synthetically cloned Angels reformatted into biomechanical war machines.Â
