My coming out story is a rather complicated one. It took me so much longer to come out and live my truth for a number of reasons: My naivete, my shyness, my fear, my tendency to let others take advantage of me, my very low self-esteem, my lack of friends, my lack of support and nurturing for my identity, a lot of unrequited love and loneliness and broken-heartedness, a lot of being misunderstood, and certain obligations and expectations that kept me from being true to myself.

Fortunately, I am now able to be myself. And someday I will hopefully come into the right environment that truly welcomes me as I am, as well as respects and appreciates me. “Every Heart,” every spirit deserves that environment, and we have every right to parse what is not correct for us and pursue what is correct for us.

I lived in the shadows, in fear, for long enough; quite literally for my entire youth. It feels as though my youth was stolen in a way. I know that there are others who go through worse, but why are we expected to suppress our dreams as though we do not matter? This cannot keep happening to one generation after another.

Life your life, live your truth. I will live mine, regardless of detractors and opponents in this universe or any other. No force has the right to tell you who you are and how you ought to live, assuming you do not seek to harm anyone. For those of us who do not have adequate support networks, we do have the strength to take control of our destinies and directions. I encourage you to keep your head up, and to keep in mind that although we feel lonely at times, we are never truly alone. And though our dreams may seem controversial, we are born into this world the way we are for a purpose, and not to have our spirits broken.

And of course, IT CAN GET BETTER, if you have faith in yourself and refuse to give up on yourself. I had my dreams crushed and I had given up, but now that’s all in the past and doors open up. 😊
