Smaug couldn’t help a bursting laugh, throwing his head up in the process, obviously amused by the mare’s suggestion. Oh, what a good joke, very funny, he had to admit. “Yea… yea sure…”, he snorted after regaining his composure for the most part. “Wait, lemme pick some flowers first, then we can braid each other’s mane and-” He interrupted himself after catching sight of Kelda’s face, which didn’t mirror his own amusement, not even in form of a tiny little smirk. “Oh shit, you’ve been serious?!”, he muttered, baffled and in disbelief. To his defense, how could he have known that the mare was honestly inviting him to stay and keep them company? After their last encounter she had seemed to be very relieved once their task was done and they could part ways again. And since then they haven’t really talked to each other.

For the first time in a very long time the Drakkar stallion wasn’t sure what to do or what to say. Sure, he could simply shrug it off with one of his typical sarcastic remarks and walk away to continue his patrol through the woods, but somehow - and he really couldn’t explain where that sudden shit came from - he felt like it would be inappropriate and rude, even for his standard.

So he would simply postpone his little tour and continue sometime later. He hadn’t been looking for something or someone particular anyway and who knew, maybe a stroll together would be equally - of not even more - surprising.

“Uhm… okay… sure, why not.”, he mumbled and took a deep breath before stepping out of the tree’s shadow and walking towards the mare and the two little furballs. Those rabbits better stayed away from his legs, it would be really embarrassing to step on one of them by accident. “Do they bite or something like that?”, he asked a bit sceptical as he settled down next to the mare, eying the two bunnies.

Kelda had dropped her smile, not even remotely trying to suppress to express how very not-amused she was about his inappropriate behavior, making her instantly regret to even have invited him to stay in the first place. Why did her parents raise her to be polite and welcoming, this is causing nothing but problems with him – his parents truly failed at that gloriously as it seems. Where was that hermit raised anyway, in a dragon-cave?

To her surprise, he collected himself again and now tried to unveil a more civilized behavior, even agreeing to spend some time with them. Where did that change come from? To be honest here, it threw her off the lane a bit. Why the mindchange? With a sigh, she brushed off her concerns and decided to give it a shot. Maybe that savage just needed some sophisticated company to learn how to socialize like a proper being.

Still, she eyed him with some skepsis, watching him as he approached her. “Don’t worry dear, they usually hunt smaller prey.” Such as greens. One of the rabbits was still seeking safety behind the mare, daringly peeking out of his hiding spot. The stallion was quite dangerous-looking with his piercing golden eyes and the black sclera – the fangs and the horns didn’t exactly lessen that appearance in any way either. Despite him being a horse, his whole aura screamed predator still.

Dear? Even if Kelda had told him that the rabbits had just slayed a dragon and feasted on its flesh to satiate their monstrous hunger, it wouldn’t have irritated him as much as the way she addressed him did. And he wasn’t quite sure, if he should feel offended or not. But instead of picking up on it, he decided to keep his mouth shut and simply roll with it - like a man. Besides, he had to admit that this was a really nice place: peaceful and quiet and the warming sun felt good on his dark coat. There was no harm in sticking around for a bit and if he kept the majority of his remarks to himself, there was even the chance that they would possibly get along quite okay.

“So, if you’re not here to look for herbs...”, he began, emphasizing the last word more than necessary, “What are you doing here then? Most others spend their time on Academy grounds together. You know… socializing and stuff. Didn’t take you for someone, who likes to be alone. These tiny furballs don’t count...”

The mare took notice of his slightly irritated reaction, but then again the whole situation seemed to be a foreign one to him. One would think most are used to just hang out with others for… fun?

The way he started the new topic, made her wait for a snarky remark, but contrary to that he seemed to start a proper conversation? Made her wonder how long it would take him to drop a verbal bomb again – from what little taste she already got, she didn’t expect it to take too long.

She chuckled quietly and her gaze drifted off to the small rabbits, that were still wary about the newly arrived company. “Oh you know… doing what mares do – collecting flowers, braiding hair, singing to animals while dreaming about Prince Charming...” With every word it got more obvious that she was just joking, picking up on his earlier mocking comment. “Okay, sorry.”, she then stopped herself and giggled a bit. Smaug seemed to actually try to start a conversation, she shouldn’t ruin his attempt by teasing him. Although, his question about her looking for herbs wasn’t too off actually. Spring didn’t only bring flowers, but also various kinds of berries that she has intended to look for. But this time not for medical reasons, but for, well, a delicious treat for herself. The downside of the bunny company was their adorable squishy faces though and the way they looked at her whenever she had found some. She couldn’t have helped herself but share her found goods with them, but with a warm smile. If they were happy, she was too.
Kelda got up from the grass in a swift motion and moved forward, ready to continue her stroll through the woods on the search. The bunnies jumped up as well, eagerly scampering ahead and flushing butterflies and other insects as they hurried through the high grass. “I am indeed enjoying some lone time out here; but I also do appreciate a good talk.”, she looked back at the stallion, nodding into the direction where she was heading to, to show him to tag along. Or maybe to give him a chance to make a retreat in last second, in case he would suddenly remember he had serious business to do that couldn’t be postponed.

The longer Kelda talked, the more Smaug tilted his head, obviously not sure, if she was shitting him or actually telling the truth. At first, at least, because the Prince Charming part made it clear that she had indeed been joking. “Ah…”, he made as sign that he had listened with a slow nod. Mares could be really difficult to understand, it was a skill he had yet to acquire. In his life as bachelor he spent most time with other stallions and those were so much easier to deal with. Straight forward, equally blunt and occasional insults were basically an equivalent to expressing affection. As far as affection for other dudes went. Smaug might not be the most flirty or charming, but he certainly liked and appreciated mares and the graceful appearance some had to them.
When Kelda got up all of a sudden, he just looked at her for a moment. So they were going for a walk now, just after he had made himself comfortable? Okay. It had been his intention anyway to explore the location and make sure that everything was alright. They could just as well do it together. He pushed himself up as well and followed the mare, not bothering to ask where she was heading to. Sooner or later he would know anyway.

“Tho the bunnies haven’t been very talkative so far.”, he said in regards to her comment, followed by a snort. “Guess we can simply tie up with the good talk we had last time.”
Kelda gave the stallion a smirk. She couldn’t quite remember to have had a good talk with him, back then when they have been out in the mountains in the midst of winter, freezing their balls off, like Smaug would put it, but she was sure he was just joking anyway.

Maybe it was just him, but he had the mere feeling that the spite from their last encounter was missing now. Sure, there was still some mocking, eye-rolls and exasperated sighs, but it still felt different. More relaxed and both of them weren’t as moody and tense. Probably because it wasn’t so damn cold this time and they had actually chosen to spend some time together. Wow, now that he thought about it, it sounded really ridiculous. The two of them, spending time with each other, voluntarily. Though it was most likely just a matter of time until they started to annoy each other for real and came to the same conclusion as last time: they didn’t get along.

But until then Smaug was totally fine with keeping his mouth shut and just stroll through the forest with Kelda leading the way. Meanwhile the rabbits ran and jumped around them, over branches and bushes and oh god, how could someone be so full of energy? The Drakkar stallion kept eying them, hoping that they wouldn’t run between his legs or - god forbid - under his hooves. Crushing one of them wouldn’t be helpful for their newly formed civil way of interacting with each other.

His gaze fell on the mare’s long silky tail and aside from wondering how she managed to look so perfectly groomed 24/7, he was kind of impressed how she could maneuver herself through the forest without getting tangled up in like… every bush. “Allow me the question, how many times a day do you-” Smaug interrupted himself when a distant giggle reached his ears. He immediately lifted his head and looked around in search of whoever the sound had come from. “Did you hear that?”, he asked, although he didn’t really expect an answer. He was sure Kelda had noticed it as well. “Wanna check out who that is or rather… go somewhere else?”

When Smaug formed his question, Kelda pointed her ears back at him, curious what he wanted to ask. But when he didn’t finish his sentence, but went silent instead, she came to a halt to look over her back at the dark Bay. She hasn’t heard anything, so she stayed quiet and listened to the sounds of the forest, scanning it with her ears. The song of birds, the rhythm of crickets, leaves swaying in the wind… no, no she didn’t hear anything unusual – wait. There it was again. “It’s coming from that way?” The mare looked into the direction of where she had heard the giggles from. “Let’s have a look.”, she answered with a bright smile, curious about what was so funny over there in the woods. “Come on!” With swift steps the Draugr mare fell into a light trot. The bunnies obviously would have chosen to stay away from whoever made those noises, but since Kelda was so eager to take a look, they decided to tag along. Instead of staying on the path, they hurried through the bushes, around trees and over roots with such a playful ease.

Before Smaug could even reply, the mare had started to trot along the path, towards the unknown voice. While he had to admit that he was kind of curious himself, who else chose to spend this beautiful day in the middle of the woods, it also felt a bit strange - almost like stalking - to look for the one the voice belonged to with no valid reason. It probably was just his loner-self screaming in his head right now. For someone like Kelda, who seemed to be really good at interacting with others, it most likely wasn’t a big deal at all. Maybe she even knew who that was.

While Kelda’s steps were light and barely audible on the soft ground, his own were a lot heavier, causing visible imprints in the earth. No, he definitely wasn’t good at approaching in a subtle or even sneaky way.

He heard the giggle once again and this time there was a second voice as well, much deeper and muffled. “There’s at least two…”, Smaug mumbled and glanced to Kelda right next to him. The mare chuckled almost silently over his behavior. It was as if he was counting the enemies he would have to tackle down in a second. The undergrowth was thick and it was almost impossible to see what was on its other side, but after passing a few more trees, Smaug noticed movement.

“Told you there won’t be anyone.”, Smaug heard the deeper voice say and came to a halt. He lowered his head and used his horns to push a rather large branch to the side which blocked the way to a small clearing. When he looked up, right into two rather surprised faces, all he could think of was a quiet “Oh”.

Kelda stood right next to him, looking at the two lovebirds that seemed to enjoy their day off relaxing on a – not so lonely – meadow. “I had a feeling that I know that voice.”, the mare said and smiled at the unalike pair.

“Smaug, am I right?!”, the black Gleipnir stallion, which he knew was called Athos, said. Next to him was a slender Aurorae Cremello - Mercury. “Uhm… yea. Sorry to butt in just like that. Hope we didn’t interrupt…!?”

Mercury was lying on his back and looked up at the two intruders from down below. They have been fooling around a bit, so when he sat up again, there were a couple of loose greens stuck in his stubborn white hair. “Seems like we weren’t the only ones to spend a date on a meadow. The weather is just perfect.”, the boyish stallion chuckled and grinned at Smaug and Kelda.

“What? No! We’re not on a date!”, Smaug immediately replied and huffed a laugh. They. On a date. Yea, sure. Pfff. Nah. They didn’t even look like a couple?!

“Then what are you two doing here, all by yourself?”, Athos asked with a subtle smirk and plucked some loose leaves out of Mercury’s mane. “Just casually hanging out?”

“Basically… yea?!”, Smaug replied and it annoyed him that he did - indeed - sound a bit defensive. Instead of adding anything else to it, he looked at Kelda. She was the social one with good conversation-skills after all.

Kelda had smiled at the young stallion for that question. What an adorable kid. And even more adorable was Smaug’s reaction. Of course he tried to brush it off as if this was a bad joke, obviously a little nervous about the situation though. Instead of helping him out of his uncomfortable situation though by keeping it low or changing subject, she raised her brows and just slooowly turned her head towards him, to shoot him an unimpressed glance. “So, do you wanna say I am not worth a date?” Oh sometimes it was fun to be a mare – starting drama for no particular reason but the fun of the moment. She really wanted to see his face.

Mercury furrowed his brows and showed his teeth through his crooked grin. “Ouch.”

Smaug’s jaw almost dropped to the ground as he stared at the mare in utter disbelief. Did she really just turn his words against him? Why did she ask such a thing in the first place? Why did she ask him? And what was he supposed to reply for fucks sake!
“No, that’s not what I was trying to say!”, he shot back, a tad too quickly to sound casual.

“Uh, that is going to be interesting.”, Athos mumbled against Mercury’s cheek while nuzzling it gently. In any other case he would have preferred to be undisturbed while spending time with his love, but this scene was surprisingly entertaining.

“Of course you’re worth a date, I mean, just look at you!”, Smaug struggled, making a step back without even noticing. Oh shit, he was digging his own grave.

Mercury leaned against the huge black stallion, glad that they were already over this nerve-wrecking pre-relationship stage. Although he honestly had no idea if the two in front of them were even somewhat close to that. At first they have left the impression on him, that they might be a thing. But now he wasn’t sure anymore. He couldn’t deny they had some intense chemistry going on, but chemistry was a strange thing and more often than wanted led to... explosions. And this right here seemed to be dangerously close to one. The bunnies obviously got the same vibes from them, because they were now sitting with Athos and Mercury, instead with the Draugr mare.

Kelda blinked a couple of times. She had expected anything, but surely no compliment from Smaug. It was almost hard to believe her ears – were they playing tricks on her? Did she just make that up in her mind? That went into unexpected directions – MISSION ABORT! – so she started to laugh, to ease the situation. “I am just kidding, don’t worry Sweety.” What was that even…
