Fun fact; Pokémon (the games and the anime) were directly inspired by Stand by Me. It is a movie based on a Stephen King novella, in which a couple of boys go out to find a dead body which they find.
If you remember the Arcadia music video from a few years ago, there’s shots of kids on train tracks that bookend the MV—that’s straight up just Stand by Me lmao

This is the very first time I’ve drawn the OG group all together, and I did it to traumatize them by showing them Skye’s corpse in a shitpost. I went with the OG trio because it was the original head show writer, Takeshi Shudo, who said Pokéani was inspired by Stand by Me on his blog(?) so thought it’d fit putting the shitpost in his era (Kanto-Johto).

I haven’t watched the movie or read the novella so it’s just so bizarre looking it up and seeing how much it’s praised for being a great coming-of-age story. It’s a story about kids seeking out and finding another child’s dead body—how did this inspire Pokémon of all things lskdjfskdfjl
Using the dead body “gimmick” could work perfectly for a darkfic though, cuz you know not all of those 10 year olds going into the wilderness have made it out.

As it is spooky season, I originally wanted to draw a direct parody of the scene from the movie as a complete picture rather than this shitpost. I got some sketch work done, but took a step back because I wasn’t liking how it was turning out. I may finish it soon though!
