Description Profile task for Cali's re-run of OC-training . Calian belongs to my science fantasy setting much like all my other characters.
Guess Who explanation:

TL;DR Short bio: Calian is a seasoned ranger of Ekkenian ancestry. He was raised to be a hunter, a herder and a warrior for his tribe. Life threw him far from his ancestral grounds. As the story begins, he has just become a deputy guildmaster of Duinegal, a rangers guild situated in Duine Vale in the Unowned Lands.

The full version:
Calian was born to the Sand Bear tribe chieftain in the Ekkenian Wasteland, a vast unforgiving area situated in Northern Ekken. As any other Ekkenian boy, he was raised to become a hunter, a herder and a warrior. A second child and the only son, he had to grow up rather quickly. When he was fifteen, his father was killed on the desert by a wyvern. Since Cal was too young to ascend to his father’s place, another warlord took over the lead of the tribe and cast the boy out to get rid of the threat.
Calian wasn’t helpless on his own, as he was already an adult in Ekkenian terms. Still, he had to get out of the Wasteland ASAP because no one survives on the Wasteland on their own. However, he was followed by Haqiqat, his maternal grandfather and the tribe’s lead shaman.
Haqiqat thought the new chieftain was an idiot to cast his grandson out. Calian inherited Haqiqat’s ability to hear the earth’s pulse. This enigmatic magic ability is what allows Wasteland Ekkenians to survive in the desert, find water, prey and avoid larger predators. An earth chanter, as they call them, can perceive core energy auras in their nearby surroundings. Everything has a core energy aura: animal, plant and mineral alike. Haqiqat decided to make sure his grandson would master this ability to ensure his survival.
Calian wasn’t happy Haqiqat followed, because without him, the whole tribe was vulnerable. There were other earth chanters, but none of them as experienced as his grandfather. Everyone in the Wasteland knows that the pack dies without the elders, it is known. But Calian also wasn’t taught to question his elders. And he needed guidance if he wanted to survive. They wandered off the Wasteland into the mountains, and that’s how Calian met Vael.
Vael was a Maddyrian elite hunter on some kind of a suicide mission whom Calian saved from a certain death in the maws of mountain lions. Once saved, Vael seemed to give up on his mission a tiny bit and invited both men to return to his tribe’s hunting grounds with him. Haqiqat, feeling weak, chose to stay in the mountains and ordered Calian to follow Vael.
Calian and Vael nurtured a mountain lion cub to health and Calian learned of Vael’s own magic gift: the beastspeak, a sacred Maddyrian rite of exchanging soul chips with a beastly hunting mate. The three of them travelled south, back to Vael’s hunting grounds. As it turns out, Vael was also a ranger of Duinegal, Ceagildian rangers guild in alliance with his tribe. Calian decided to join the guild, learn the language of this southern people and leave his past behind. He travelled once to retrieve his grandfather, but the shaman had peacefully passed away of old age in the meanwhile. (He probably felt his death coming and chose not to be dead weight).

Calian is a bit of an outsider even after ten years in the Unowned Lands and still feels best while on horseback doing all sorts of errands for the guild. He’s likely the fastest rider, so the guild entrusts him with courier work when things get too delicate for ravens. Ravens can get intercepted, Calian cannot. He was illiterate for most of his life, so the best way to make him get the message across is to let him memorize it. He won’t lose it.
It was a few years after joining the guild that Calian became one of the poster boys of Duinegal’s alliance with Jakkimar’s League of Talents, an Argemeil-based paramilitary organization aspiring to unite Ceagildian countries. As a courier dealing with nobles now, Calian had to level up in diplomacy real fast. It’s not like Calian is a huge fan of politics, tbh. It was Vael’s love for novelty that pushed the guild’s council to connect with the wider world, and Calian simply followed Vael like he always would. But now Vael is dead and his legacy lingers on, causing waves in his wake.

Personality sum-up: Quiet, scrupulous, faithful. His Myers-Briggs personality type would be ISTP, his zodiac sign Capricorn.
Greatest weakness: Doesn't talk.
