Description First task Guess Who for Niyeoth's round in OC-training .

I tried incorporating both drawing and painting techniques into this one. It sure could some use more refinement, but I'm a little tired of it at this point and for most of the time I didn't exactly believe I will finish it at all so I'm happy with it as it is. I know the perspective is off in many places, especially the godsdamned staircase. Hope you enjoy anyway.

And now to the fun.
May I introduce to you Niyeoth Yoltepenaeyo, a side character in my main story but very much a protagonist of her own story. In her round I'd like to focus on her during her own story, which will probably impact Isil's as well. I also hope to refine and maybe even finish the short story where she's the POV character, hopefully shedding some light on how this entire mess started.
Tiny disclaimer: It's her natural skin tone, as well as skin tones of other characters - no body paint involved

Good luck guessing to my OC-T peers!

Love the mood and setting of this! ;o

I'm guessing she's some sort of archeologist, and it looks like she gets pretty absorbed in her work? They seem to be in some sort of ruins, and she just dug up something like a bowl, though idk whether this is relevant to the story yet or just an example of what she can find. They seem to be some way underground but she doesn't seem bothered by this. There are other people so I'm guessing they might be a team, and there seems to be no dispute or dislike between the characters, since nobody is giving anybody the evil eye and they all seem to be in rather amiable moods
Love her outfit ^-^

It looks like she's an archaeologist, and probably a well respected one at that, since no one is overseeing her work. She seems very focused, which is probably a good thing. I'd guess the child is hers, and the man next to him is the father, since the boy's skin tone seems to fall between the two. Her clothes look fairly sophisticated, so I'd guess she's from one of the more advanced cultures in your world.

Well this was not an image/character i thought i would see in the modern/scifi group at first glance. The architecture and surroundings suggested a medeval theme when i first saw it. Though i guess i should have realised Niyeoth's shall we say...unearthly origins given that her skin is purple. Anyway she seems to be an archeologist on earth or some sort of human colony. She's very desicated to her given that she doesn't even wave to the young child who is saying goodbye. I notice the two different species arguing in the back, maybe human alien relations aren't as sound as they may seem? Anyway this looks very fascinating and i cant wait to behold the works that this character will feature in the future.

Never judge the book by the cover Though I'd admit my setting doesn't fit any of the groups in 100%, at least not the way they are organized. But I know how difficult it is to categorize so many diverse settings so I'm not gonna complain
The two people in the back could be arguing, or friendly chatting or discussing some of their current site matters just as well. I tried to simply show them interacting without prompting what kind of interaction would it be.
I'm glad you think it's interesting, I sure hope to keep it as such.

The art reminds me of some of the old star wars comics I have, coupled with the mine reminds me specifically of 'Splinter of the minds eye' - that is however unrelated . I think she is an archaeologist

Oh wow, amazing job on this piece! Love the perspective and attention to details here!

Niyeoth is an archaeologist! It looks as thought she's with a team exploring the ruins of an ancient city! She has purple skin, suggesting that she's not human! The Man and the little girl look to be her family as the little girl's skin tone has that purple skin tinge to it. Niyeoth looks very focused and determined with what she's doing! She seems like a serious and patient person!

I look forward to seeing her reveal and learning more about her!

She looks to be an archaeologist! She looks very focused and fixated on what she does and I am also assuming the man and child are her family. If not, friends of hers.

Excellent work done on the lineart, coloring, and the attention to details are phenomenal!

Oh goodie!

Niyeoth looks like an archelogist! The little girl looks so much like Isil, so I'm guessing this is her mother!

She's very down to earth and judging by the determined look on her face, I wanna say she loves what she does. She's completely focused in her work. I think she's getting closer to something she's been searching for for a long time. Hence why she's not letting distract her. She's not alone, she has a team with her down there.

I'm guessing Niyeoth is an archeologist, definitely dedicated to her work and pays attention to all the painstaking details of her craft. I am curious about the trip wire. It could be there to mark off the area as under dig but it could also be a trap to keep somebody else from discovering whatever they are looking for.

OHH this is an amazing illustration, so many details! Your execution the perspective and the lighting is mind-blowing, it looks so real! And so are the poses and the way you highlighted the expression of the two characters who are facing us, so that we can read into their story. And now, onto the guessing part...

Niyeoth is an archaeologist, perhaps the leader of her team (there's a pin badge on her uniform). She is working on unearthing and studying a temple of an ancient civilization and she is trying to discover more about it by analyzing the artifacts found inside. She is a scholar who doesn't mind (or, rather, who loves) getting her hands dirty while working in the field, and, judging by her tired by focused and hyped expression, she is very dedicated to her work. Perhaps even too dedicated: the little girl is probably her daughter (judging by their resemblance) who is being led away from Niyeoth in order to let concentrate on her work and although the girl is waving goodbye Niyeoth doesn't even pay attention, so absorbed she is in her activity. The little girl seems to take after her mother in her adventurous spirit, but they sure manifest it in a different way: she doesn't seem the scholarly type much, but very energetic and pretty outgoing, judging by her expression, her tomboy-ish and ready-for-action-clothing and the stick in her hand Clearly Niyeoth and the girl's father belong to different races. (I might say that the man leading her away is her father - because he seems gentle and protective towards her and they both have golden hair - in which case his gesture of looking away would imply a certain disappointment in Niyeoth's attitude, but I'm not 100%; he may be a member of Niyeoth's team either way). A bonus from my vast wisdom: the girl is Isil and Niyeoth is Sigelian XD She so cuuute as a kid

Nieyoth definitely isn’t human judging by the skin tone... unless it’s a trick of the light or some sort of body paint. She seems to be on an archaeological dig and is very focused on her work. Too engrossed to notice that her family (?) is leaving.

I told you already how much I loved the concept of this picture.
You did a amazing job on the perspective.
I must say those two styles combines perfect. It just works fine and gives a different feeling to this picture.
It's nice that you let people work in the background it works well.
Only thing that I do notice is that the little girl grabs more of my attention that probably suppose to be.
How you can provide this the next time is just don't make her as bright as Niyeoth herself so you push the attention to the focus point back.
Btw it's nothing bad that she is there I rater like it that she is because it tells that she has also a importants inside Niyeoth story.
I understand this is Isil and I can understand why you wanted to give her also a bid attention.
(also I geus because you was telling you liked to have proper feedback here we go )

Well I made you a real life geus already with her but let's write it down.
She is a archaeologist, travelling with a team. Seeing that there are different kind of nationality around there it apears that she doesn't do this only on one place but even around the howl world
She is focused to her work. Seeing the small details of the ruïnes she encounters. Loves to learn about the history and the past live what was there.
I think she is a good team worker. After al with this kind of work you suppose to be a good team worker.

In overal I think the art work is beautiful the building you created is just sweet and nothing better I could do.
The perspective is amazing, and it's damn hard to get this kind of perspective right. You did a amazing job on the light and yeah here we go xD I adore the colours hahah xD
The composition is damn right done also. Because my eye glides to the left and the right to capture each detail I can find and to learn more about the drawing his story.

Thanks a lot! I'm really happy you like this piece this much
And thanks for the feedback! I couldn't wrap my head around what's wrong with the composition and you definitely confirmed my doubts - Isil indeed is capturing too much attention. It was planned to some extent for the reasons you stated, but still spoils the composition. XD
The perspective killed me and I'm still traumatized when I look at this piece, so I'm glad to hear words of appreciation for all that hard work from you

You are welcome.

also thank you for taking in the critique so good c: You know I usual don't like giving them.
Also it's such a small part that I don't think it makes the drawing lesser.
But it's something I noticed. Sometimes if you been drawing so long on a perspective drawing like this
you lose a bid the vision about the composition. Heck I have problems with this by my self all the time.
Usual spot my mistakes to late..and I rater like not to correct it and just go on to the next drawing.

So be proud on this piece it's amazing <3 not many people are capable to drawing such a amazing background and characters in perspective!

She looks to be some sort of archelogist, from the dig site and the getup she's wearing. Though what type of archaeologist, I am not entirely sure. She looks to be having some different coloring of skin and hair. But it seems to me that your characters have had a slightly different coloring in your world anyway, so i guess I shouldn't be too surprised. ^^ Looks like she's focusing REALLY hard. ..And probably a hard worker as well. You perfectly execute difficult perspective. Details are awesome:  scaffolding, ropes, hands gestures, Isil's grin. I'm amazed!

Niyeoth seems to be archeologist. Though I thought she's into genetics. So perhaps she's after something that help her to recreate extinct species.

I can't help relating to the family sitiation:  "darling, take the child for a walk, outside, I've got something to do".

She is an archaeologist indeed, and a little more than that, but that's her primary occupation. You wouldn't believe how close your guess is... under a certain light

And yeah, it's exactly the situation! Vael is certainly not happy she got there during his turn to babysit.

Torag1000 [2018-09-06 22:12:58 +0000 UTC]

The place is obviously the ruins of an city that is long lost and long buried underneath the earth by time. Discovering it began efforts to unearth it and discover whatever lost history it had in the past. Niyeoth, whom I going to assume is the purple woman, is an archaeologist. Considering how close she is to an unearthing of a hidden object, I'm assuming she's one of the people leading the unearthing of the lost city, and taking in an active role of unearthing the priceless baubles and objects herself. Well, I can somewhat tell since she's using a brush to wipe off the dirt and speck on that wooden bowl on her hand. She seems rather intensely focused on the work as she didn't really respond to the girl's wave or saying either hello or goodbye. That's what I can gleam into thus far. I'm not sure if I am correct.

Looks like she's involved in some sort of underground archeological dig (really far down, holy CATS those stairs! Hope they have some ropes or fencing around that hole or someone's going to end up part of archeological history. Let me now give my ~TOTALLY TRUE~ and ~GENUINE~ attempt at guessing, which I totally did not write right next to you.

Niya is an artist, who only uses home-made paints made of entirely natural minerals and ingredients. She's a body painter with a preference for the colour pink (hence her totally non-natural pink hair and skin-colour), and currently she's gathering pigments for her dyes. Look how absorbed she is in her work! This is a woman who understands her craft, someone who is entirely dedicated to making wholesome and eco-friendly body-art.

In the background, you can see her clients: the handsome Vael, who always requests the same swirly stripes covering the entirety of his body - Niya loves him because he also is the Ultimate Hipster Who Dedicates His Life To Nature And Also Having Mullets; and the adorable Isil, who just got her first body paint - look, she's also pink! Niya surely must've been so happy when Isil requested pink, even if it took most of Niya's pink pigments to get her fully painted pink (and that's why Niya currently is looking for new pigment for her pink dyes).

Aka: Niya is a dedicated woman who loves Vael and Isil and also her job.

SpaceCastaway In reply to MegaMaeve [2018-09-04 19:55:55 +0000 UTC]

I'm so proud of your totally-not-nonsense-and-very-genuine guess!   You focused on the actual important things, which aren't the columns, ruins or tools but the colors - as everybody knows, magenta pigment is the least common natural pigment in the world, so Niya has to dig really really deep. Sometimes she encounters ancient ruins on her way, but that's how dedicated she is. She has spend her entire life trying to come up with dye as close as her natural skin and hair color, just to prove that she can. Why would she do that, we ask? Her art is too, pardon me, deep for us to ever understand.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MegaMaeve In reply to SpaceCastaway [2018-09-06 10:05:45 +0000 UTC]

Don't I always focus on the actual important things?

Now, for an actual attempt at guessing - here I go:

Niyeoth is a Sigelian archeologist, who traveled to Duinegal with as part of a research group in order to do some excavations at the Duinegal Tower (which can be seen in, say, Vilali's Guess Who). The research team had to dig deep in order to reach the ruins - which suggests that the ruins are ancient. The fact there's even stalactites hanging from the cave's ceiling only serves as evidence for this conclusion.

Considering the stone pillars of the site look dissimilar to the wooden cottages on top, I'd say that the ruins are part of an ancient civilisation with splendid architecture: they are ruins of Old Sigelia (which, incidentally, Aevie is interested in; he's the project supervisor and also Niya's great-great-(...)-uncle, taking into account Niya's tiny star-shaped brooch depicting the Yoltepenaeyo family sigil).

It seems Niya's team is in touch with another group of people (there's another Sigelian dude talking to someone else), who are clearly not Sigelians - they're Maddyrians, natives of Duine Valley. The Sigelians and Maddyrians seem friendly to one another, familiar with one another, even. They probably work together, even if Maddyrians themselves are not part of the excavation team.

The little girl in the bg is a much younger and happier Isil (), which I'm really happy to see. She seems like a bit of a wild kid, with a bright smile and even brighter eyes. She's vying for Niya's attention - she probably came to see her mom at her job. Maybe she doesn't see or hang out with her Niya all that often, so this was a special occasion. (Judging Niya's dismissal of Isil's gentle good-bye, I'd even say Isil wasn't supposed to even be at the site). Isil's father, Vael - a full-blood Maddyrian - is escorting her away. In spite of the mullet, he clearly is a handsome and tough guy. He seems to wear the uniform of the Duinegal Rangers (but considering I can only see his backside, I'm not 100% sure of it).

Niyeoth herself seems totally absorbed in her work: she's focussed, detail-oriented, and doesn't let anything distract her. If she's got her mind set on something, she'll do anything to get it whether it's dusting off pot shards or conceiving Isil, Niya will see everything through til the very end. She looks like a no-nonsense personality, and probably is a bit of a workaholic. I bet she doesn't even get enough sleep.

There seems to be a tiny bone at Niyeoth's feet as well - is she a palaeontologist as well? Sigelians tend to have several BA/MA degrees - and it makes me wonder about Old Sigelia. Was this a burial site? Was this a city? A palace? I bet Niya wants to know just as much as I do, or maybe even more.
