I couldn't do a dragon challenge without drawing the Guardian. The Guardian is an original character of mine, who showed up in my fledgling comic Parallel Parchment all the way back in 2003, and who remains a main character in the reboot, Lanterns of Arcadia, which launches in summer 2016. If you're not already familiar, the comic takes place in an enormous multiverse library, and one of its major features is a giant tree in the central reading room. There are stained glass images of the tree all over the Library.Watercolor & ink on paper, 4 3/4 x 8 3/8"

Cute! I can't fathom how you have enough time to make a new dragon every day... each painting must take hours

Mostly I try to do speed paints, 1-2 hours each. A couple of the more detailed pieces like the Monarch Dragon go a little bit more towards 3-3 1/2 hours, although some of that is just waiting for paint to dry in between layers. I tend to put some TV on in the background while I work; makes it easy to keep track of time.
It's still tricky to make a painting every day, so these challenges are probably only something I will do once or maybe twice a year.
