Fleet Admiral T'Var's aide Lt. Kina Deir takes a stroll around the Auston settlement on the planet New Tattooine where Starfleet officers have made first contact with survivors from a crashed alien transport ship. These aliens, from different species, have built a community on this mostly desert planet. As Kina rounds a corner she makes a first contact of her own, with one of the droids! The droid is finishing work on a device that looks like a 'speeder bike', one of the vehicles the settlers use to get around the surface outside of the town. As Kina approaches, the droid completes what appears to be repairs and closes a hatch on it. The droid backs away from the speeder and switches it on remotely. The speeder rises a few inches from the ground on hover mode.

Kina watches in amazement as the droid remotely tests the speeder's functions, apparently giving the vehicle a full diagnostic. The droid revves the engine for a moment, checking its tolerances and temperature. Then the droid pilots the vehicle, moving it forward, slowly at first, then increasing speed, steering it in a circle then straightening it out and driving it forward again. After piloting the bike for several meters at different speeds, the droid brings it back to the original spot and lowers it's power leaving it in 'park/hover' mode.

Kina smiles and claps her hands, applauding the droid's skill. The droid turns it's head towards the Starfleet officer and makes some low pitched whistles and clicks, in an obvious attempt at communication. Kina walks over closer to the droid, halting a few feet away. She bends over to it so that she can examine it better and try to communicate.

"Well hello!" Kina says warmly. "I'm Kina. What's your name? Do you understand me?"

The droid clicks and whistles again, this time in a longer burst. Apparently answering her question. It is definitely communicating with her but she doesn't understand its language. The universal translator in her comm badge is trying to decipher what the droid is saying. It obviously understands her.

"I'm sorry little guy, but my universal translator hasn't caught on to your language yet." She explains. "But it seems to me, that you can understand me already! If we keep talking to each other, the translator will decipher your language soon enough."

The droid responds again in its language then moves away. It stops a few feet away then spins its head around back towards her and whistles, inviting her to accompany it.

"You want me to come with you?" Kina asks. "Okay, I'll tag along. Maybe you could show me around your settlement."

The droid clicks again then moves on. Kina runs over, catching up with it in a few feet.

"Lead on my little friend!"
