CONCEPT/DEVELOPMENT

History
It was clear that in the late 1980s, regional and international peers were developing a new class of fighter jet, being defined by low observable signatures and cutting edge avionics. Current Miraje and Exigen fighters were sufficient for their time, but times were changing. In response to the unsatisfactory outcome between a hosted next generation fighter competition, a cooperative effort, named "Devina" was formed to produce a sufficient fighter from lessons learned.

Alluring specifications couldn't compensate for the following issues that all prospective next generation fighters presented. These issues consist of the following:

-high flight/utilization costs
-lower anticipated airframe life
-unsatisfactory operational readiness percentages
-inferior combat radii
-less hardpoints
-less future-proofing

These concerns had been ignored for critical designations and development studies, but were considered unacceptable for mass production to replace the various 3rd and 4th generation air-frames in service. That's not to say that the aforementioned air-frames didn't have room for improvement, as they have their own limitations, being products of their time.

-Higher utilization of advanced fibers and composite materials
-Software-centric upgrade-ability
-Lower logistical footprints.
-improved aerodynamics
-reduced structural parts
-streamlined manufacturing processes
-Improved fuel economy
-Improved thrust/weight ratio

The Esprit-Evo is the fruition of this joint corporate-national project, following a troublesome contract for a next generation fighter jet, as part of a military-wide revision in the late 20th century.

Design
The Esprit-EVO features a frame largely constructed of interconnected carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP). Its base endoskeletal structure is a highly shock resistant, steel-derived composite metal envelopes by CFRP. Compared to alternative materials, this allows for a much higher max G force rating and service life at only a mild sacrifice to weight. Compared to earlier steel or titanium designs, it retains a significant advantage in terms of stealth and weight.

Its skin is largely CFRP, with surface additives to reduce friction. Internal grid segmentation allows for ease of maintenance. As opposed to absolute radar signature reduction, efforts here focused on longevity, supersonic performance, and IR signature reduction, which was considered to be a worthy compromise as to not be reliant on fragile materials and difficult additives.

In an effort to further reduce IR signatures without over reliance on exotic materials, an air scoop located under both engines bu their outlets was allocated. This allows for a separate airstream to help reduce the IR signature it its exhaust.[/box]

Control Surfaces
The Esprit-EVO features a tailed-delta wing design with leading-edge root extensions (LERX), flanking both sides of its fuselage in place of the true canards that its predecessor had. To improve inherent instability and stealth, the Esprit-EVO relies on mild angulation vertical airlerons, angled at 10 degrees [/box]

Powerplant
Twin Eclipse 718X Turbofan engines power the Esprit-EVO. Aside from construction methods and materials, they have 2 main distinctions from competing designs

The first being that the Eclipse-718X Features a variable-geometry turbofan design with a reduction CVT between the fan and the low pressure shaft allows the fan to rotate at a different speed than the turbine and compressor. With a CVT, ideal RPMs and power distribution goals are meet through both sub and supersonic speeds.

Its secondary notable feature is the inclusion of an cylindrical air-to-water intercooler. Working on a similar basis of that of one found in a some turbocharged automobiles, the intercooler simply makes air that is induced colder, prior to combustion. Revised manufacturing processess and the pursuit of fuel efficiency has made what was considered an unneeded complexity not only viable, but necessary to meet stringent performance objectives.
