Granite Rapid (River Mile 93 / 150km) offers one of the most favored spots for photography during Colorado River raft trips.
The distinctive Dana Butte seen here some 1500ft / 460m above the river on the Tonto Plateau - the plateau above Grand Canyon’s inner gorge - is easily picked out from South Rim viewpoints as well.
Granite Rapid itself, offers one of the most thrilling rides on the river. You are guaranteed to get very wet.
This photo was taken during a backpacking trip of several nights into the area.
Sleeping at night with the constant roar of this powerful rapid blurring out all other noise is very restful.
