Description First attempt at imaginary male portrait monotypes! This is the warm up from this morning. It's very gestural and unspecific but I kind of like this abstract, leave room for imagination 'style'.

WHAT IS A MONOTYPE?

For those who do not know what a monotype is: it is a hand made painting made on a smooth plate (like glass, metal, plastic etc) I use mylar, plexiglass or polycarbonate as my plates. Afterwards a paper or canvas (I use paper) is placed on top of the painting and pressed to transfer an impression. Therefore although called 'print' this is not a digital print. It is a traditional printing non editioned method of hand printing. Like a painting, you get a unique, one of a kind art. At most perhaps 1±3 versions of the same design, none of which will be the same. To make the same design again, it will have to painted again from scratch (or a clean plate lol)
The editioned hand prints include linoleum cuts, etchings, screen prints, lithoprints etc.

I first hand press the excess ink and get the first 'print' then I will run what paint remains on the smooth plate through my press twice. During this process all of the paint is consumed. This is why the second (main) 'print' looks much darker than the third ghostprint.
