Description The lovely g3ngars on tumblr commissioned me to paint their dog Charlie for my morning warm up!
Some progress shots are on my tumblr

Notes:
-To create a focal point, narrow the area of greatest contrast to the area you wish to be the focal point. Do this by:
-Bleeding out shadows, blurring and losing edges, and lightening the shadows in less important areas
-Define light areas more than shadow areas; lose detail in shadows
-Lose shadowed edges, create sharp lit edges
-Narrow detailed area to focal point
-Add a pop of color in the focal area
-darker, sharper shadows in focal area to draw the eye
-Against a cool dark background, dark red color pops in the shadows go a long way for adding realism, the appearance of subsurface scattering, and warmth
-hue variation, hue variation, hue variation...
-When in doubt, lose some edges and find them again with a fresh eye
-Use grainy brushes to blur out and lose edges as opposed to a soft brush or blur tool (those tend to look very digital)
-Bring warmth into the background to unify
-Subsurface scattering in eats makes a great color pop

Your charlie reminds me so much of my chiweenie, Heff. And the white dog that you recently drew looks just like my Kishu Shiro x3

Not to mention, your artwork is lovely!

beautiful! I love how smooth it looks, kind of reminds me how charcoal works when you have a very dark area and you use your hand to lose details and blend them all together whiteout losing shape.
