Description Purity: Freedom from anything that debases, contaminates, pollutes, etc.

Blood rained down, drenching Hanji. She swiped with one hand at her glasses, clearing them just enough to blurrily see. The titan fell behind her. Ignoring it, she continued to press the strip of cloth against the soldier's stump. Blood, this time human, seeped through the makeshift bandage, staining her hands red. Hearing the quiet footsteps behind her, she turned her head.

“I need to make a tourniquet. And...” Hanji paused as Levi ripped the green tunic on the ground into strips. She held the bandages firmly in place as he deftly wrapped the tourniquet around the soldier's thigh. The man groaned as Levi tightened it.

Levi looked up at Hanji, frowning as titan blood steamed off her. “Can you even see? You're filthy.”

Hanji nodded absently as she yanked the unconscious soldier's shirt up, exposing bruised flesh. She pulled the glasses off her head and handed them to Levi without looking.

“Barely. Do you mind?” She ran her hands over the bruised skin, feeling for broken bones.

The shorter man grimaced as he accepted the glasses, pulling out a cloth to clean them. He stood, surveying the land around them, pleased at the lack of titans in the area. He whistled for their horses while Hanji finished her inspection. The horses turned towards the sound of his whistle and trotted over. She looked up at him when he thrust the glasses in her face.

“No broken ribs. If we can get to the caravan quickly, he'll have a chance of not bleeding out on the horse. Help me?” She hooked an arm under the soldier and pulled him into a sitting position. Levi did the same on the other side, both of them grunting as they hoisted him on to Hanji's horse. Levi quickly lashed the man to the horse, so he wouldn't fall off while they rode.

They mounted their horses, Hanji settling in front of the injured soldier. She scanned the horizon and pointed in the distance at a green signal flare. They turned to it, spurring their horses into a gallop.

The soldier was limp against Hanji. He bumped into her in the rhythm of their gallop. Grassy plains passed by as they rode, passing the occasional tree, or spotting another team in the distance. She and Levi kept their heads turned to keep an eye on a duo taking down a titan in the distance. Hanji let out a puff of breath as it fell down to the ground, steaming. The team scurried onto their horses and continued on. When Levi finally turned to face forward again, his grip on the reigns loosened.

Hanji's eyes were drawn to a meadow they were passing on the right. Colored flowers they didn't have within the walls were blooming, gorgeous shades of violet and burgundy waving in the gentle breeze.

“Hey Levi?”

“Hey Shitty Glasses?”

Hanji sighed as they reached the end of the meadow. “When we purify this world of titans, what do you think life will be like?” Hanji shifted, letting the soldier slide into a more comfortable position for her back. “Think anyone will even leave the walls?”

Levi shrugged. He and Hanji spotted the new green flare at the same time, and they veered in tandem to the new direction.

“Who knows? The general population is too comfortable in their plush homes and filth. It'll likely be us who've been past the walls to explore and settle out here.” He glanced at Hanji. “Why? Planning for the future already?”

It was Hanji's turn to shrug. “Just thinking of the day we're free. When the lands are purged of titans, and we have the option to move forward.” She glanced back at the limp man behind her, glasses glinting. She turned forward, a grim smile as they spotted the wagons for the injured. “When these lands are finally purified by our blood, sweat and tears.”
