like, dolphin damn nik may i borrow your artistic skills with lighting and colours and pretty dolphins for a year, or seven, or forever? I just love the way you drew their face, you really managed to bring out that subtle common dolphin beauty. AND THE EYE i love the eye. how is your art always so intensely satisfying to look at??? i lovvve it to bits

oh of course man ;A; like, HOW COULD I NOT? u did not fucked it all up at all. sure the markings aren't 100% correct but honestly I DON'T GIVE A HERRING'S TAIL. somehow with your paintings when i look at them all my corrective impulses just melt awayΒ and all i can do instead is gargle over how intensely satisfying these are to look at. i don't know what it is and i don't know how you do it but i just love all your paintings. IS IT A BLESSING OR A CURSE
imagine though, what if we could combine into one art being?? we could bring your amazing use of colours and lighting and general painting, and my incessant nitpicking about anatomy and colour patterns and we'd be friggin UNSTOPPABLE

unfortunately hyperrealism aint my game. not only am i super bad at it, but i like being sketchy and impressionist~ Mostly because I'm lazy! but also because i just love that aesthetic. still... i bet if i could vampire ur knowledges, every one of my comic panels would look UH-MAY-ZIIING
dude the original design for this character had like super not accurate markings. at the time it was on purpose, because i wanted the design to be simple. but i actually fixed them up because it stopped matching the general aesthetic which has changed since then. so ive tried to keep them appropriate but also kind of simplified, at least for this one character (because she's sort of simple herself). however my other common dolphin characters have like the fuck-off markings that are super annoying to draw because its more of a match for them.

naw man i didn't mean we'd be going for full on photo realism or whatnot
i know it's not your game which is exactly why i said we'd be bringin' in your amazing art style because i love your way with making things in painterly perfection to bits. like you say, it's got a stunning aesthetic. somehow it feels more alive and interesting than the clean nitpicked hyperrealism pieces i try to shat out. it has the potential to look sloppy, but you make sketchy and impressionistic work amazingly. i don't know why but i just can't pull it off. maybe my paintings' base work with colour&composition etc just isn't good enough, but i always end up stuffing detail in in some attempt to make them look better and make me like them more but honestly it rarely works. i wish i could do like you!
however i do have collected lots of knowledges about little dolphin details from years of looking at dolphins on photos and in real lifies up close. so that's what i meant when i said we could combine into some unstoppable the7thnam art being because we'd have the littlest of nitpicky things about colouration and anatomy correctly painted in the most beautiful painterly style. and it would be awesome (kind of the same result as you vampirin my knowledges, but then without me getting bitten). but well - DREAMS
hah, that's actually pretty darn cool. i don't think i've ever seen/heard of cetacean characters whose markings reflect their personalities too. you're not weird about design YOU'RE BEING COOL. i'd love to see the complicated dudes with fuck-off markings some day soon I'M CURIOUS BOUT YOUR PHINS NOW

but u gotta know the intricate details of the 5 square cm that do show up between and beneath armour. so u gotta design the whole dolphin. that's just how it goes for us
