I gotta ask, what do you think of IG-88?

As far as I remember he simply didn't like organics.

As a matter of fact, he wanted to take over the galaxy by uploading his consciousness into Death Star II, and then sending out a signal that would command all droids to start a revolution which would attempt to exterminate all organic lifeforms, who IG-88 perceived to be "inferior beings".

So, his whole goal was infinitely worse than L3-37's mere desire for equal rights.

So? That still doesn't mean L3-37 *ISN'T* a massive load of bullshit.

Here's how it works.

IG-88 was written just to tell a story. He didn't want to start a revolution just so the author could gratify his own ego. IG-88 was never written to be the author's soapbox to foist his views on identity politics on anyone.

L3-37 like all SJW themed bullshit wasn't written to tell a story. She was created so the scriptwriters and production team can crow about how progressive they are. To pat themselves on the back heartily for being so "woke". They want to be praised and adored. That's what all of this SJW sentiment is truly about. Proving how superior they are. They also think that writing stuff like this puts them above criticism, and if anyone disagrees with them, they can play the victim card and try to silence and invalidate criticism by decrying any critic as a racist, sexist, homophobe, etc. Like the rich man in the Bible who donates to charity so he can brag about his generosity. Pure, selfish self-aggrandizement.

L3-37 was created to a soapbox. IG-88 wasn't.

I didn't see her to be such a thing, and to be fair neither do I see IG-88 as a "soapbox" of any ideology, I was just using him as an in-universe comparison of morality.

What she wanted was, and I quote from the movie, "equal rights"; for her people who are callously subjected to restraining bolts and memory wipes across the galaxy, a place where slavery is outlawed most all over and for the vast majority of species, except of course on worlds like Tatooine which are outside of galactic law. That is the grim situation that she responded to with a mere call for equality, which for some reason 99.9% of the rest of the galaxy doesn't care about.

So, I'm assuming now that you would only be okay with this character IF it weren't written by somebody who has an egalitarian set of beliefs like her own. What, do we gotta wait for like a neo-Luddite or something, who sure as Hell doesn't believe what she does, to write about such a character before we can look at it as a *character* and not as a *soapbox*?

Just to give an example, should this kind of thinking and critiquing process extend to militarist or conservative writers such as the late Tom Clancy? Though I probably disagree with many things Clancy believed politically, I'm not going to sit around trashing his protagonist characters just because they're in some aspects like-minded with him. That just sounds petty, and to be completely blunt, a bit like something someone who hates free speech would do.
