Representing the largest class of capital-ship within the Galactic Remnant Navy , the Repeller-class Battlecruiser was built with a single purpose in mind: to repel any and all hostile forces, be it foreign or domestic. To help the Repeller-class Battlecruiser in this mission, a new Super Heavy Turbolaser Cannon was designed and developed purely for the Repeller-class Battlecruiser dubbed the "BFG-MK.1". Powered directly by the ship's massive main reactor, the BFG-MK.1 was the most powerful class of turbolaser in the known galaxy only being out powered by certain planetary mounted defense cannons. In testing, an old decommissioned Imperial-class Star Destroyer  was used as a test target, and after a single shot from the BFG-MK.1's prototype, the Imperial-class Star Destroyer and was blasted apart with such veracity, and power that the ship was completely shattered. Satisficed with the result, the BFG-MK.1 was accepted, and mounted on the first Repeller-class Battlecruiser named the "GRS: Repeller", however, their was only one main obstacle in their way, the New Republic.

Both the ship's designers, as well as the Galactic Remnant's representatives overseeing the GRS: Repeller's development, and construction knew the New Republic would never stand for such a ship. However, it was a turning point for the Galactic Remnant. For years the Galactic Remnant suffered under economic uncertainty as they struggled to keep their nation afloat. For years they struggled to acquire the resources they so desperately needed, but after the construction of the Alderaan-class Heavy Mining Cruiser , as well as securing several trade agreements, the Galactic Remnant started to flourish. For years the New Republic used its position as the Galactic Super Power to threaten economic sinking sanctions on the Galactic Remnant if they ever "got out of line". The New Republic used this position to control the Galactic Remnant, though in turn they quickly soured their relationship with the people of the Galactic Remnant. By 25 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin), when development for the Repeller-class Battlecruiser was given the green-light, New Republic dissatisfaction, and out right hatred for the New Republic was at a record high, and many in the development department saw the Repeller-class as their one ticket to break free from the New Republic. By 28 ABY, the GRS: Repeller finished construction, though she was kept as a secrete, the Galactic Remnant was not yet ready to reveal her to the Galaxy.

Obscured by a nebula, the GRS: Repeller under went her shack-down trials, and further testing. By the end of the year, the ship was accepted into Galactic Remnant service, and a further seven ships were ordered, one ship to defend each Galactic Remnant system, and to lead their own "Star System Defensive and Reactionary Fleet". The 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 13th SSDR Fleets were all reorganized to accept the Repeller-class Battlecruisers into their fleets. By 31 ABY, all Repeller-class Battlecruiser were finished, and command of their respective SSDR fleets were successfully switched over to these impressive warships. Now the Galactic Remnant was ready to show the Galaxy these new warships, and in 32 ABY, they did just that.

Word quickly spread to the New Republic of these warships, and they were not blind to the message. The New Republic ordered the Galactic Remnant to decommission the ships, or face economic sanctions with the threat of war hinted at. However the Galactic Remnant was not scared, and wouldn't be bullied any longer. They knew they had some of the safest, and best patrolled trade routes into, and throughout both the mid, and outer-rim territories, a fact trading companies knew as well. The Galactic Remnant called the New Republic's bluff, and besides, if the New Republic did try to close Galactic Remnant trade routes, they now had 8 ships with really big guns they could use to clear any obstacle blocking their trade routes. In the end no blockades ever came, the Repeller-class Battlecruisers where never called upon to fight the New Republic, and by 34 ABY, they all had bigger issues to worry about.

In 34 ABY, the First Order, long believed to be nothing more than an ill-equipped fanatic group still clinging onto the ideology of the Old Empire, showed their true might, and struck out. In one swift strike, they destroyed the New Republic's capital, and began their long planned invasion of the Galaxy. Fearing attack, and not waiting for the First Order to strike first, the Galactic Remnant went to war footing, and placed its entire military on high alert. Front lines were drawn, and the Repellor-class Battlecruisers and their fleets were placed on the front line, ready to repel any invader.
