Nice drawing I love the way you drew jolteon, he is my favourite pokemon and he looks kinda cute in your style ^_^
I think the shading on this looks really clean and smooth, especially on the jolteon. Though you could add more depth to this by making the sucject and foreground sharper and bolder, while keeping what's in the far back smoother and lighter.
Also, I think it's a really nice touch that the Jolteon is walking in the water, looking at the lightnig. One question though, is there another light source in the picture? Because if the lighting is the only light source it should be darker, right?

yea the lighting is kinda confusing that happened because of two reasons one is,that the sky was actually light before, decided to add the lighting at the very end and also the clouds got darker than expected lol. i wanted the bg to be even darker ,but it looked strange and so I set it back. I like drawing pictures with lightung or sunrise bg and that stuff but I´m kinda afraid making the character in it soo dark as it actually would have to be ,it feels like destroying the pic but I know it isn´t right to let it be bright. With jolteon I really wanted to set it into foreground so I didn´t do much shading on it at all, but yea it looks strange in the end. that style I use on this picture needs really a great amount of time,it´s so much harder when not using any lines to get all the edges and stuff clean by smudging and such ,but sometimes it makes a nice effect.I like doing the single hairs with the smudge tool for non outlined wolf pictures and such but it´s long ago I did one without OLs.

Yeah, I understand how pictures start to change as you do it, and in the end, they can be so different from what you wanted them to be in the start. I think you just need to take the risk and don't be afraid, it's digital after all, so you can always save copies if you fear messing it up Experiment, and let your pictures be a learning expierence ^^

yea ^^ i´m trying to learn cell shading currently, at least I try. it´s hard to imagine where lights and shadows are when u do not only edge shade

Try breaking down the subject to simple shapes like spheres, cones and cubes and imagine how light hits them. It's easier to imagine the way light hits a cylinder, instead of imagining how it hits an arm or leg.

thx i often did that for human body parts it´s actually not that hard but whn there´s a great amount of shadow i can´t really figure every piece of shading out by simple forms actually but I should try that more often

DemandinCompensation [2010-01-14 04:12:39 +0000 UTC]

Aww, it came out very nice!

Now, I believe this picture really lacks depth, and that hinders its presentation. Depth is hard to really depict (and I'm certainly no master of it) but usually a foreground is darker than a background and more in focus-- a sharper, crisper image. Jolteon itself is well done overall, a great job on the spikes which give so many artists problems, though the front paws are a little large. He shows distance between himself and that river bank (because he seems "closer" and more in focus) but the river bank all the way to the sky looks flat to me. The use of strong contrast (darker colors against lighter colors) could also set a mood to the picture. If you wanted it dark, eerie, threatening, or powerful scene, with the lighting being the primarily source of light, you could have used black or dark colors for dramatic shadows and white or very light colors for the stark light to outline Jolteon's form.

Or a different mood could always be light, more cheery and hopeful, you could have used a little more vibrant colors, and kept the lighting more neutral like it is. :3

I hope this little review helps some, I really do like this picture and I think you could get even better with each eeveelution you draw following. n_n

thank you
i know it´s hard facing so much critique lol but I don´t get angry about that like some others do.I just feel rage if someone tells me things looking bad and don´t mention in any way what it is and how it could be better.
I understand what u mean by all the stuff that would have to be better.I like..put everyhting in it I had but it still looks faaaaar from any professional work.I actually feel like never improving at all like I stuck for the last two years.
I really Want to do it better but for some things I don´t really know how to. The only thing I really didn´t understand is that about the river because it doesn´t float into the sky or something first it was open but in the end I rather felt like making it float into a little den quite far.
I totally forgot I actually wanted to dedicate it to you ^^" because your battle was kinda inspiring, but i was soo tired I just forgot everyhting lol
i´m not that good with shading I actually really suck with it.First the scene actually wasn´t set up with dark clouds and lightings I just decided to do that later and yea it looks kinda strange though jolteon and everyhting had to be a lot darker because of that actually.i made jolteon that light actually because i wanted it to be extremely in the foreground.all in all i actually like the picture but I´m not that glad about the background actually I´m very bad in drawing landscapes and trees and stuff.
