Description
[ID: A digital drawing of Amity Blight and Katara pining for Luz on Amity’s end and Aang and Toph on Katara’s. Amity’s blush colors her entire face. She folds her arms. Katara leans on her own hand and her blush is more subtle. Imaginary Luz smiles with her eyes closed. Imaginary Aang looks confident and strong. Imaginary Toph has make up on and shyly has one arm behind her head. The background is two ovals, one encompassing Amity and Luz with the colors of the lesbian flag, the other encompassing Katara, Toph, and Aang with the colors of the bisexual flag. Katara and Amity are entirely outlined in white while their crushes are only outlined on one side. They surrounded by white hearts. A paper texture is overlaid on top of the entire drawing. End ID]
Well this has been finished for a while. The only problem had been describing the thing. I’m sure I missed something, but it will have to do. That was the hardest part. I am still happy with it even though my style has grown past this. There are quite a few things I’d do differently if I did it again, but right now I don’t think I will.
I still like the paper texture though.
I said I had some Amity/Katara parallel art coming and it’s finally here! Wow. Hope it was worth the wait. I used to be obsessed with this parallel right as I was getting into the show and it’s still interesting, but the level of Amity favoritism in the fandom makes me want to focus on literally anything else. Still adore the kid, but she doesn’t need attention from me.
I still love Mae Whitman’s voice and how different Katara and Amity sound. I wish I could hear Katara saying “Oh Wow Sports” though because it would make making a Katoph edit that much easier, even though I have no video editing skills.
Just a disclaimer for those who don’t like that I put Luz by the Lesbian flag, it’s from Amity’s perspective. I know Luz is bi. If I put everyone’s flags Toph’s would be ace and Aang’s would be pan, but it’s not about their infatuation. It’s about Katara and Amity. AtLA focused on Aang’s infatuation almost exclusively, but I still appreciate the small moments where we get to see the Kataang relationship from her perspective.
I’d go into how amazing it is to have Amity as a representation of teenage gay crushes done right, just as normal and as overt as Aang’s crush on Katara, but I think everyone else has said everything that needs to be said about it at this point. That’s what I get for being late.
