this ref needs an update, mostly to add lucky in here but to also make some tweaks to the rest of thems designs. nothing huge, changed the colours of twi's markings slightly, and summers wings, and bird's hair style-ish - as well as generally updating it to my current style and rewriting their bios a bitforgot their cutie marks whoops lol i never draw them anyway

twidash started out in a strange place. twilight had just come out of a rather rocky relationship with discord, and rainbow was quick on the scene to comfort her. she had always had a crush on twilight from their first meeting, but for once in her life had tried to remain patient for twilight to come into her feelings. twilight, who for many years lived in canterlot suppressing the part of her that liked mares, struggled to identify her own feelings for rainbow. this wasnt helped by the fact that rainbow had issues expressing her feelings, and admitting to twilight that she loved her. it left her confused, upset, and in the belief that rainbow wasnt committed (which was far from the truth) - but eventually, it all comes to a climax when rainbow finally bursts out that she loves her and asks her to be her marefriend. and then they kiss. mwah!
...and then rainbow moves in, they marry (in a typically big canterlot wedding that neither of them particularly wanted (see: ), and then something unexpected but totally expected happens

not long after twilight and rainbow's wedding, twilight fell unexpectedly pregnant. she was in denial for some time - her morning sickness was near unbearable, at all times of the day and night. she regardless tried to attend her duties, with celestia often having to send her home to bed. twilight insisted that she simply had stomach flu and shed be over it soon, but rainbow, forever the secret worry wort, insisted twilight go to the doctors and check....surprise surprise! lil babu is here!
this sends twilight (AND rainbow for that matter) into a bit of a tizzy. there were so many things about motherhood they were not prepared for - and above all else, due to her own parents emotional abuse (see here, as they vary a lot from canon: ) twilight was worried shed pass the same onto her own children. but, having had some time to think, they both agree that thats obviously not going to happen and that theyll take things as they come (after all, theyve both faced much worse than a baby).
this first pregnancy gained a lot of media attention. the press was of the belief that equestria could expect another alicorn baby simmilar to flurry heart a few years prior. papparazi were constantly trying to break into twilights castle, reaching the point where it was causing her major stress. this left her with no choice but to employ guards in the castle, for the time being, to keep the intruders at bay. twilight despised having that many guards in her home, but put up with it regardless.
birdie is born, a beautiful, happy, healthy.... unicorn. huh. weird. flurry heart was written off as a fluke.
bird song is a lil sassy mcsass. she's a perfect blend of her mothers - loves pranks, got a sharp wit, and a lot of sarcasm. she's constantly tormenting her sensitive lil brother summer with whatever prank she can think of next.
birdie, right from an early age, developed a longstanding rivalry with heart stitcher (see here: ) - the two are just a little too simmilar, and stitcher feels the need to assert that over her and show her who's in charge. they're forced to get along a lot, as their mothers are friends, but otherwise they are utter mortal enemies.
bird song's talent is in hatching and raising birds. she spends a lot of time at her auntie fluttershy's house, helping her care for the birds in her sanctuary. while here, she spends a lot of time with iris (see here: ) - birdie is not a fan of iris, but she doesnt outright hate her. just sort of puts up with her weird, hippie dippie ditzy ways. would not trust her with any of her birds at all though.
towards early adulthood, birdie begins to feel some pressure to take her role as a princess seriously. though twilight would never force that on any of her children, much of the public expected her to make something of herself. the pressure kept increasing as she grew older, and she tried everything she could to make the rumours stop, mostly by publically embarassing herself in an attempt to sway the masses- but all she managed to do was upset her parents, while the rumours persisted. she eventually came in tears to her mothers, explaining everything. while theres no way either of them could stop all of the rumours, they do all they can to help her disconnect from royal life and live her life freely.
Summer Ballad - (he/they/she) - pegasus - genderfluid - gay- [va - elijah wood] - second born foal of princess twilight sparkle and rainbow dash
though of course there was some (expected) media attention surrounding twilight for her 2nd pregnancy, less and less were expecting an alicorn as they were before.... and sure enough, they were right. summer was born a healthy pegasus foal.
summer is an absolute drama queen. every inconvenience is a travesty. do not shout, will cry. you would think that being repeatedly exposed to birdie's pranks, he'd be adjusted to it and be less sensitive- but nah.
like the annoying lil sibling he is, summer tagged along with birdie to aunt fluttershy's cottage. while he was less interested in the animals or birds, he did make good friends with iris. the two were absolutely peas in a pod, getting on like a house on fire. summer had some way of getting back at their sister, since she finds summer and iris' ditziness unbearable.
for a short time in their teens, summer and iris made an attempt at dating. they were still trying to discover themselves, and thought this was the best way for both of them to figure it out - but they both realised that neither of them were particularly interested in the opposite sex (iris being a lesbian while summer being gay). the relationship ended, but the two remain absolutely best friends.
summer's talent is singing/performing. he adores being on the stage and absolutely belting his heart out. his career begins in his teens, but word quickly spreads of the young prince's amazing singing abilities, and he quickly rises to among the ranks of sapphire shores and coloratura. he developed quite a large fanbase, swooning over him...But no one was a bigger fan than mama Twily, in front row, with all the merch, screaming along to the lyrics. Rainbow held back from attending every single concert (she'd had experience of her own parents being far too overbearing, but she still showed her support at a few) but Twilight came to almost every one (sometimes princess duties DID have to come first, shame)....and Summer loves her for it.

Lucky Wish - (she/her) - alicorn - bisexual - autistic - [va - christine woods] - youngest daughter of princess twilight sparkle and rainbow dash
when birdie and summer are in their teens, rainbow and twilight watch their children moving onto new things- and get a little bit of empty nest syndrome.... they decide one more foal couldnt hurt, right?
once again, none of the media or press were expecting an alicorn foal, and twilight and rainbow were expecting just a unicorn foal - but whoops! she's an alicorn! and literally nobody knows why! science cannot explain the humour of alicorn genetics.
when flurry heart was born, she grew very sick very quickly - and the same ended up happening to little lucky. foals arent built to handle that amount of magic in their little bodies, and with equestria having very little understanding of baby alicorns, special treatment was limited. it also left twilight (and cadence, at the time of flurry's birth) incredibly magically drained. it was a very emotional time, with everyone uncertain that lucky would make it, and twilight out of action for quite some time too. thankfully, despite reaching what seemed like the brink of death, lucky managed to pull through and make a full recovery. thus she's named lucky.... bc she's lucky lol
lucky got the bookworm gene. her special interest is all kinds of science, and is constantly conducting her own experiments throughout the castle, often leading to a lot of destruction. twilight allows it though due to her own passion for science (much to birdie's disgust, smh younger siblings get away with everything).
lucky's talent is... vague. she got it very early on, for something incredibly benign - picking a four leafed clover from the grass. though at the time she was too excited to care, as she grew up she couldnt for the life of her figure out what it meant. it was apparent that it was related to luck in some way (clue is in the name), but why from just picking the clover? what does it mean? for being an alicorn and a princess, it would seem probable she wouldnt have a talent as mundane as standing in a field picking clovers. surely itd be more logical if the cutie mark was more science related in some way? after all, its what she loved? it stumped her, and worried her. she instead threw herself into studying and experimenting to distract herself from it, and what her purpose could possibly be.
lucky is a little younger than spike's daughter, lily (see here:
flurry is much older than lucky, and so isnt exactly a childhood friend to her, but rather a role model. as being born an alicorn as well, flurry takes it upon herself to make sure lucky is guided properly and happy and not overwhelmed. its sort of them against the world, and lucky takes some comfort in knowing that theres another pony just like her, who is grown and well put together.

- rainbow and lucky are autistic. rainbow's special interest is in the wonderbolts/flying, while lucky is science
- twilight loves to listen to her wife get all excited and flappy about the wonderbolts and her latest flying routine. she loves how happy and excited it makes her, and hearing her voice go squeaky and seeing her wings flitter makes her love her even more
- bird song is in a relationship with daffodil (see here:
- lucky gets along very well with her niece, fruit loop. fruit loop is about 10 years younger than lucky, so she takes up a big sis role.
- twilight carried all 3 of the foals. this is because a) rainbow dash is a wonderbolt and being out of action for so long would be a big inconvenience, and b) it would cause her too much genuine distress, moreso than it would most ponies. she's incredibly uncomfortable with the concept of it and twilight would rather "take the hit" than put rainbow through something like that.
- mentioned it before, twilight has ptsd, due to the trauma from her parents as well as being put at the forefront of every equestrian disaster
anyhow that took me way too long to write. i tried to be as comprehensive as possible but i think theres a lot ive missed...but its 2am so i need to sleep lol

You're one of the only people I know who also think Rainbow Dash is autistic!! They usually just go for Maud or Mud Briar as examples, and whenever I mention that I hc Rainbow to be autistic or Pinkie to have OCD , I get all these weird looks

i actually meant to add that but forgot lol: main reasons are 1) rainbow is a wonder bolt and would be left unable to do her job, as it requires her to be very up and active while princesshood doesnt in the same way - and 2) it makes her incredibly, distressingly uncomfortable (moreso than it would most ponies) and so twilight is more willing to do it each time. rainbow does consider it but it just causes her way too much stress, as much as she loves all of her children

Plus I realize I'm being hypocritical here when I ship twilight and tempest and they have 2-3 kids and tempest is the one that births all of them.
