Description We have a lot of severe weather here in Missouri. A couple weeks ago tornadoes came through the area and caused major damage not far from my studio. Thank God no one was killed. I've always loved meteorology and watch the weather at all times...the power of Mother Nature is an amazing site to behold. I wanted to show Mother Nature as a ghost like presence that influences the weather with her movement...a flick of the wrist could spawn a tornado and she wouldn't even notice much less care!

Amazing work! I'm still fascinated to this day by tornadoes since I'm just on the edge of Tornado Alley here in West Texas.

I didn't notice that figure of Mother Nature right away -- so appropriate of the ghost-like figure that you meant to portray. This is just an extraordinary depiction of a storm. Beautifully painted.

I've had a couple close encounters with tornadoes myself. One of the things I rather dislike about Missouri.

Amazing artwork.

Thanks! I've come close to seeing one once but that's it. I really want to see one before I die!

Well I could have seen one... Just would have had to step outside. But considering a 3ft diameter tree was uprooted about 40 ft from the cabin we were renting for vacation... And that a couple buildings in the area lost parts of their roofs... Probably wouldn't have been a good idea. I would have found out what it's like to fly, but also probably wouldn't have survived. So no seeing tornado.

But at least I can forever tease my grandma about her half-asleep reaction to hearing the tornado...

Middle of the night, she starts shouting, "Train! Train!" because it's always said tornados sound like trains, which they do, so being half asleep her mind didn't process the right word. It wasn't until my grandpa woke up enough to understand what was going on and he said, "Tornado!" that she finally started yelling the right word.

A decade later and she still hasn't lived that down.

I should make a comic about that sometime...

Very well portrayed. How would Mother Nature be shown in a more benign form, such as nurturing crops?

This fits perfectly

she looks like she cares just about the destruction just about as much as humans care about the destruction they cause.
