A Lizard Pokemon, Charmander is one of three Starter Pokemon in the Kanto region. The fire on Charmander's tail is a sign of its health; burning brightly when it's happy and healthy, and merely flickering when it's depressed or sick. If Charmander's tail fire is extinguished, it will die. It's rare to find Charmander in the wild, but they can be found in mountain regions, living in packs and alerting each other to the presence of food. Charmander evolves into Charmeleon, then Charizard.

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Charmander is a Stage Hazard in the Saffron City stage, using Flamethrower when it appears.

Charmander is playable in Pokemon Unite, evolving into Charmeleon and Charizard.
