I always had been fascianted by machinery. I took hundreds of shots of this plane.
Sadly this era came to an end. After a crash in Switzerland with 25 vicitims these planes are/will be restored.
Due to lack of spare parts from BMW they will use newer US engines

That is unfortunate. I noticed it was a BMW engine... I don't know much about planes, but I know they made airplane engines prior to making bikes, but stopped making them after ww1 and changed to bikes instead. My guess is, but I don't know, that they started to make planes (or at least parts for them) again in the re-militarisation leading up to WW2.... after that I have no idea.

I figured it was just the engine, but wasn't sure.
That is a pretty bike, but not very European looking (other than the engine of course) - That looks very BMW.

Sadly this era came to an end in 2018. After on of these beauties crashed in Switzewrland (more than 20 victims) they decided to restore the few JU52´s. They will get newer engines because there are only few parts available for the BMW engines...

und nun diese Tragödie.....

I am so glad I took so many photos of these engines because they will be replaced. There are no more spare parts available. An era comes to an end after 80 years... It made me very sad reading an article about the restoring of the three planes still flying.
