"Stumble seven times; recover eight."

Hailing from the Hoenn region, Soma was born in a small hamlet in a forest village to an agricultural family. Like most villagers, the family planted crops, harvesting them for food and commercial export. At a relatively young age, a band of bandits came and ransacked the entire village. While damage was done all around, Soma's hamlet was entirely destroyed. Being sent away from his home with his fraternal twin, he never again saw his parents or the aftermath of the cruel act. While making their escape, he became separated from his brother and consequently lost him, despite retracing his steps with feverish purpose. The lost of his village and family were cause enough to impress upon him a sense of horror in response to unjust violence, but the disappearance of his sibling proved to be traumatizing in its own right, and would later inform the importance he stresses on community.
Orphaned, he traveled for a short while until coming upon a trade caravan that proved themselves kind enough to take in an extra mouth to feed. They spoke of heading to a foreign land, and with nothing left for him in his current region, Soma found no reason to stay any longer. They called it Eithos.
The caravan wasted no time in traveling as quickly as they could to the marketplace of Wisteria. Soma was quite impressed with the hub, having never seen one so lively before. The caravan stayed for a week, and when it was time to part Soma felt compelled to stay, and so he was handed over to the Merchant's Guild for work and housing. It didn't take long for word to get to him about the Guild.
Several years were spent investigating Guildmembers; watching them, listening to their stories, eavesdropping, asking questions when able, and more. It quickly dawned on him that he wanted to become an adventurer like these folk. More importantly, he wanted to protect communities and spare them from the horrors he had experienced back in Hoenn. On the dawn of his fifteenth birthday, with no formal training whatsoever, Soma made his way to the Guild and enlisted as an adventurer. He worked tirelessly his first year, and when the division of the Guild occurred he knew where he needed to be—and so became a member of the Hidomara Guild.
Soma had made his way from being the orphaned son of a farmer to a deadly and hyper-focused shadow in the night. His drive for power has led him to become a successful and reliable adventurer. A mentor to him since the days of the unified Guild, Basil, is proud to call Soma his pupil, though constantly reminds him of the dangers of allowing emotions and self-centered desires to rule ones psyche. Indeed, Soma's personal goal of never allowing tragedy to befall a place when under his protection borders on the neurotic.

Misc:
- Often wears disguises when on missions during the daytime hour.
- Loathes the cold. Muscles cramp more easily in harsh conditions.
- Is often only found wearing casual clothes when inside the Hidomara compound. Casual outings outside of that are rare.
- Is not a fan of close relationships. Would much rather have an abundance of support systems and acquaintances than close friends. Although he stresses the importance of community and banding together, he doesn't want to experience loss on the scale he has before.
- Doesn't use vulgarity all too often. Dishes out a lot of proverbs in response to situations. The art of speech is frequently associated with him.
- Trains under Basil, meeting him during his early teenage years and training with him since he joined the Guild.
- Despite his unwavering drive to see a mission through to the end, he understands mercy to a great degree. He doesn't kick somebody when they're down, or cause needless violence. ("To rejoice over a victory is to rejoice over the slaughter of men.")
- Contrary to nature, he's somewhat at piece with members of the zangoose family. At least those that are younger than him. When situated with somebody older, he is often withdrawn and appears to walk on springs.
