Description Jan 12, 2011 - colour correction repost

Sometimes old cars seem to sneak up behind me. I was on a yard looking at some other vehicles I had noticed from the road. I had finished photographing them and turned around to walk back to my car. It was only then that I noticed this truck. While I was initially blown away by my lack of observation, I felt that this lifelong deficit was redeemed by the beauty of the colour against the sky.

I hope you enjoy.

1946-47 Dodge. Flathead 6, 4 speed, 2 speed rear end.

Thanks for your comments.

I was back in the area whwr I took this picture a few months back.  The truck is no longer there.  Kind of sad really, because it was a very beautiful vehicle.   Maybe it found a new owner and is being lovingly restored.

I love this photo so much! And I love the title - I think it fits perfectly! I like the ears on the foreground and the sky - it gives a feeling of freedom!

I have to agree!!!

The original processing was not done right. The image lacked spark and was too dark over all. The colours were deep, which was attractive, be the dark overcast ruined the result. I used current tools, which has improved a lot since I took and processed this one in 2008. Part of it is that I have learned more, and part of it is that the tools are just so much better.

aye understand I have done that with some of my photographs as well! I still need better tools but I have improved somethings with better tools and more knowledge of using the tools I have!

I like how crisp this is and I agree, the colour difference between the sky and body is breathtaking XD

The previous version was over-processed which resulted is a dark cast over the image. I stared from the original RAW file and re-processed it to 2010 standards. That made a significant difference to not only the colour, but also the clarity and sharpness. After 3 years years, I think I have finally done this one justice.

Twice in about a week I've seen your work on the "front page" when I signed in. I think both were on the popular list, although I may have just caught this one early (just getting back to it now). Anyway congrats! You're building quite a following, and have really found a niche. It great that it's something that you love.
One could believe that with a new battery and plugs, wires and oil, a flush of the gas tank, air in the tires, and he'd be ready to roll! Not dead, just restin'!

Thanks Jon,

I really appreciate your long term support.

On Saturday a local show will start and run for a month. Then in march I will have another larger show. Most of the people who follow my work are on line, so these shows are important for local exposure.

This particular truck is probably in running condition, though I could not confirm that with the owner.

That's about it John,

I get so focused on one thing, I miss other things around me. The focus is great for the task at hand, because I can exclude extraneous stuff, but it is not always great for finding things.

Superb colour combo between car and sky, they seem to have a "solid" appeal, independent of their shapes or content. Ace! To me the colour blocks almost suggest pop art, or (reductionist eye) Mondrian. Very satisfying.
