This is just beautiful and absolutely stunning. The shades of the trees create this desire to be there in this moment. I just adore the almost antiquity of this picture. The old wood barn, the oranges of the trees and the hints of green as well as the shades of grasses really paint almost a memory that I as a viewer have. Your work is stunning and gorgeous. Your dog also is what really makes this picture very special. My childhood friend was a beautiful border collie just the same. The variation of black and white as well as brown paws and whiskery mane about his face reminds me of your friend here.
Best of wishes to a fellow photographer
~Haley

Hi Haley,
Thank for your visit and your comment on "The Road Home". Orca was indeed a very special friend. This was one of the first pictures I took with him. I rarely ever set out to take a picture of him, but there are a few exceptions. He came with me pretty much everywhere so even when he was not in a picture, he most often was there, behind the scenes keeping me safe and giving me company.
Thanks again for your visit.

thanks John.
There are only two copies of this piece in existence. One is owned by the K9 rescue org, the other my my son Daniel. Orca was Daniel's dog. He was 14 when we got him. When Daniel left home, Orca chose me which caused some conflict for Daniel and I. So I stopped calling orca "my dog" and referred to him only as "my boy". He is still my boy...

Thanks, it is a "built" photo, much like a painting is done. The dog is my son's, but Daniel has been away for many years, so Orca, has chosen me. He is now 14 years old and a dear friend.

Orca is a great companion who travels with me.
Every day we go for a walk in the country. Right now it there is snow on the ground. On Tuesday we had walked about a mile and returned to the truck. I discovered that I had lost my keys. We were three miles from home, and I had a class to teach in 2 hours. There was no option but to walk the mile again and try to find the keys. We were almost at the end of the distance we had walked, and had not found the keys. I was getting ready for a cold walk home (it was -15 ºC) when I saw Orca spin around and poke his nose into the snow. He had found my keys. We went back to the truck and drove home.

Good story! I walk in the fields behind my house (many pics on my page) but no dog these days.

I always work alone and get into areas and situations where help would be a long time coming. For the first years I just took Orca, but now I travel with a locator. That was if I have trouble, I can signal for help. I can also just let my love know that I am OK and exactly where I am. Cell phones don't work in most of the places i go, so satellite is the only option.

you did not need to make the correction.
The picture is old, and it is not really a photograph, but more of a manipulation, though the same negative is used over and over. The picture had gained some small usefulness, and is used by "Road Home K9 Rescue". For me, it is an honour to have them use the image.

thanks, it is a rather special piece. The dog is Orca, he is my companion and travels with me most places. The image has also been sold to K9 Rescue. They are an organization that rescues Border Collies. They have the rights to use it in advertising so you may see more of it.
