Description After a dream
I woke alone on a shore.
Cold, dark and grey,
The wind and me, nothing more.

There was a box
At the edge of the black sea.
Did it wash up,
Or was it put there by me?

Should I peek in?
Or leave it taped and sealed tight?
Best not to touch,
Let it wash back to the night.

I dream about the ocean all the time...sometimes as a benevolent thing, calm...sometimes I see tidal waves rising up and I run and run and try to tell other people to run.....
this has that same surreal feel.

Very nice.

Thanks. Is the whole thing a poem or a picture? Maybe this is a better way to do it: [link]

To answer that, I suppose it depends on what one considers to be poetry. I sometimes think of the fiction of Roger Zelazny. He wanted to be poet, but found that writing (SF, in particular) paid the bills, so he spent most of his time doing that. However, I often thought that the descriptive language he used, and the images he wrought, were closer to poetry than that of many actual poets. And now we have visual images that also seem to cross into that realm. To paraphrase a certain justice: "I can't define it [poetry, not pornography ], but I know it when I see it."

It's a good point... sometimes categorisations are counter-productive because they detract from what something really is. Art is communication, so who cares if it is called a "poem" or a "picture" or "prose". What is a poem, really? I dunno.... I quite hated English in high school.
The poetry of forms images in my mind if I read it quickly and don't focus on the individual words. So in my head, are these poems or pictures?

You never get the feeling of being trapped? It is even more interesting (to me) that I have been unable to crawl out.

Sometimes I'm trapped but it's my own doing. I feel pretty much in control... but then maybe I've never really been trapped. There must be a way out of your box... even if you have to think your way through an imaginary hole in the box!

Well...I have been scratching around. I will make it out I'm sure. I am just trying to figure out how I got in there in the first place.

Good luck. It's the year of the rat, and the rat always has an escape route, so you'll be fine (provided you make it out this year).
