The main planet that everything takes place on, Stulsal, has another planet that comes close to it every six months. The two planets' gravitational fields interfere with each other for about a day, and when they move away, their orbits around their sun are offset to where one planet goes straight into winter, and the other goes straight into summer.

Stulsal is the name of the planet my main base is on in No Man's Sky. The planet in the game and the one here are completely different, but I kept the name because it's a cool reference.
