wytrvn — A northern pothole lake...

Description I don't know about anywhere else, but in Northern Ontario, Canada, we call this a "pothole lake". The area around Elliot Lake (town & lake) is thickly littered with them. They are not necessarily deep & are often joined to one another by wetlands that follow the contours of the land. Some are naturally formed, others, by beavers damming streams which meander through the bogs. The land is covered in conifers ( spruce & pine mainly) & deciduous trees (birch & aspen). Blueberries grow in profusion. At this time of year it can be dangerous to wander off the road into the 'bush' without special neon coloured vests as hunting season has begun. Deer, moose, partridges, ducks & geese are all on the stalkers' menues. Needless to say, I shot the 2 photos stitched together here, from the roadside with a telephoto lens!

It must be such a change to go from this environment to the city! At least you can go back sometimes...
