Description this is at a middle stage right now, after FW inks and acrylics on arches oil paints paper, i have pinned down the high and low tones but in the next layer i will establish the middle ones too thus making the pallet fuller/richer/complete.As a necessity i should use water based media that i am thinking it should be neocolor II and work this layer with a water brush...
no matter the next upload will be the finished version of it although i find it quite alluring at this stage too

Another thought it was to adhere this on a wood panel and varnish promptly once it is done before framing it. Or i could put it behind glass during framing...what do you guys think?

did i tell you? the biggest fun with the FW inks was the...nibs
it was my dream all along to be able to make such tiny thin lines with a strong color and the nibs can do it with the acrylic inks! An amazing feeling i'm telling you

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2016-12-15 16:58:34 +0000 UTC]

I am not surprised by that at all, and it shows here so clearly in your work.

I know that using my technical pens with the black ink alone has been so much fun for me. Not that I don't love my tiny brushes but the precision with the inks is so nice. I have a sense that this is only the very beginning for you with this style, and I am sure there will be more great works with precise ink detailing in your future.

XRlS In reply to kach-back [2016-12-15 17:17:22 +0000 UTC]

i wouldn't hold my breath on it " I have a sense that this is only the very beginning for you with this style" as this corresponds perfectly with an illustrator's needs. As of lately i have become a painter (i think lol P)
but then again maybe you are right

in any case this "there will be more great works with precise ink detailing in your future" will prove to be correct i suspect

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2016-12-15 17:23:11 +0000 UTC]

As someone that considers themselves a "painter" first I can understand your thinking here. The difference being that you are so very productive with your art I can see you remaining a painter mostly, but using this technic on a consistent basis as well.

I know for a fact you might start a piece with the intention of using a certain media on it, and then along the way apply one or more additional mediums as they suit your direction better with the work.

I am sure everyone would agree with me, that as long as you are producing works we are very excited and happy to be viewing them.

XRlS In reply to kach-back [2016-12-15 17:27:49 +0000 UTC]

aaargh how true is that "I know for a fact you might start a piece with the intention of using a certain media on it, and then along the way apply one or more additional mediums as they suit your direction better with the work."
imagine THIS i intended to make an oil painting so i used arches oil paints paper as basic surface and you see how much of oil paints i used on it eventually lol

baaaah maybe theres something wrong in my head. I AM able to schedule up to a point with a piece but the key words are "up to a point" because after THIS point i let the piece take me whenever it wants, i let my hands do their thing without me meddling and giving orders.
crazy I'm telling you, crazy!

I personally believe the truest form of art is art that becomes organic and takes on a life of it's own. I always keep that "I'm not a human photocopier" thought from you in my head when I am working as I think that clearly defines us as artists. We interpret, apply our own style, and adjust based on where the artistic journey is taking us, at that particular point in time.

I don't think there is anything wrong in your head at all for doing things the way you do. In fact it must be a wonderful bit of creative joy to have things change directions at will, and allow you to discover new ideas and combinations that work well together. What would be crazy is you not working the way you do, because you put everything of yourself into the pieces you produce and you need all the tools within your reach to be able to do that. Β Β

i said that "I'm not a human photocopier" i remember
you and I have been through this conversation several times so far, should i be a mixed media artist or should i focus to one tool and perfect myself with it?
Well lately i see many mixed media artists working on every kind of surfaces with all kinds of tools producing amazing art and NO it doesnt interest me anymore to focus on one media if i can have all and use all.
some time you might view in person my "auto pilot" creating art stage, i do have a silly smile on my face i have been told, i guess this is how happy it makes me

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2016-12-15 17:50:11 +0000 UTC]

It was a very poignant comment and good one for all artists to keep in mind.

The thing is YOU can choose to be any kind of artist you want to be, and you can do this easier than some others because of your willingness to push yourself, and your openness to try new ideas out. I have said this before and I will always come back to it, if you are pleasing yourself with your art, than you are satisfying your toughest critic and most important audience and everyone else is secondary.

I would definitely love to witness firsthand your '"auto pilot" creating art stage"'. The fact it makes you that happy means clearly you are satisfying yourself with it, and that my dear is truly wonderful thing. Β  Β

on another note now i discovered today something i wasnt aware of. A fixative spray that is used solely with color pencils and its purpose is to create tooth on the surface (besides sealing it) so you can for example add highlights effectively over ANY color you might have underneath. It is very interesting dont you think? www.jacksonsart.com/brands/bru…
i might give this a try if they deliver it here (i do hope they do... )

That's a marvelous concept, I wonder how many layers you can go with it, because even a few would be amazing to be able to work with. It's very interesting, and from what I see on their website they ship world wide so I am positive you can get it shipped there.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XRlS In reply to kach-back [2016-12-15 18:03:54 +0000 UTC]

they say indefinitely you can add all the layers you like, and it makes sense to me because as long as there is tooth on the surface to sustain the layers you can go on until you are happy with it.
I know they ship world wide, my only concern is that this is a spray can, you feel me? there are always regulations and restrictions when it comes to that...but i will try and i will let you know how it feels when i have it in my hands and work with it

although i dont do anymore strictly color pencil pieces, there is seriously no harm at all to have this, i mean are we kidding? tooth on a "stuffed" surface is a gift from heaven lolΒ  Β

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2016-12-15 18:10:44 +0000 UTC]

I am thinking even if that brand is not available close to you something similar to it should be. I think if you are ordering in limited quantities you would be okay, but if you wanted a whole case that might be a different matter. Too bad they don't sell it as a liquid that you provide your own spraying system with which to apply it.

Even from my limited exposure to coloured pencils I can appreciate being able to add tooth as a new layer. I can recall things getting so smooth in areas that I could not add anymore coloured pencil no matter how hard I tried. I hope you can get your hands on some of this and please do let me know how it works for you.

i might search for it in other portals too
now i am laughing with a message i received on FB
sheeeess people are preposterous some times....

anyway it seems i had no luck with art time so far, i spent the last 25 mins talking to my dad on the phone
ooh well, people are more important that art or anything else for that matter.

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2016-12-15 18:59:58 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you will need to, you can order it from the company in your link and they will ship it via ground. They were willing to ship via ground to Canada and at a reasonable rate as well.Β

People can be very preposterous at times especially through forums such as FB.Β

Talking to your dad is definitely a good use of time, hopefully you will be able to squeeze some art in as well. Here I must go out into the freezing cold for work, so feel free to send me all the wishes for warmth you can muster.
