Okay, I know Iβve already Faved this and left a comment, but lately Iβve been feeling that I would have to abandon my own claim to being a colossal Yuuza fan if I didn't give this Art a thorough review. In my opinion, it would be a crime not to.
First off, there is no way I'm going to give this even the slightest score deduction for Technique after how many times I've sung this Artwork's praises. The hair especially is so beautifully blended together, not just according to 'colour sections' but as a whole multicoloured stream that I can see it as both flowing paint and hair; if that makes any sense. The skin tone shading might be a tad 'defined' but that does it no harm in my eyes. Plus, after reading your critique Dos and Donβts it would be pretty stupid of me to say something negative about something you've likely developed on since this Art's original publication. Top score for that category.
As for Vision; from reading your description I can honestly say I feel this beautifully embodies everything you've said. Here we have an aspiring Artist in the form of Rainbow Girl, almost surrounded by those ready to erase her creativity and put a stop to her progression.
Usually with an Artwork with a complete solid black background I question whether it's missing something. Not the case with this. In the world of these critics; creativity, ambition, and the choice to defy convention have no place and they won't hesitate to wipe such things from all of existence. They are already jumping straight in hoping to destroy her progression and make her into one of them, but still she keeps on painting despite what blemishes they may've left.
It makes me realise how little power those who are out to crush our dreams actually have. When considering their monochrome colouring against that black and empty background, itβs as if they will actually be the ones to vanish from memory and existence, but Rainbow girl and her work are here to stay.
This is the part where I look at an incredible Artwork and read too much into it, but that look on her face makes me feel she is representing two of the greatest emotions an Artist can feel when facing such trials: the defiance of not willing to crack under such pressure and criticism (her 'star eyed' side) and the torment/heartbreak of being belittled purely for what they want to do and the sense of doubt + lost confidence beginning to show (the side where she cries; which is coincidentally where most of 'decolouring' of her hair is taking place).
Putting aside the fact that I don't personally seek out Art with a similar theme, I have never come across anything like this. I sometimes forget that thereβs more to the psychedelic theme than just splashes of many colours and I must admit that before I became a part of DeviantArt I used to think that multicoloured hair was too messy an idea, but here β for reasons already covered β it has produced one of the most striking ideas Iβve ever seen. So as you can probably guess, for Originality Iβm giving it 5/5.
I can't go into its Impact from a symbolic/emotional point of view as I feel I've already covered that in 'Vision'. But as far as visual Impact is concerned, it's a definite high score. When I first paid a visit to your Gallery and browsed your Art, this work just leapt out of the crowd. The vibrant mixture of colours had me instantly drawn to it, and the striking presence of the subject that is Rainbow Girl is only heightened by the previously mentioned solid black background. It feels like only yesterday I was introduced to such a magnificent Gallery back when you once Faved one of my WIPs. I also have to acknowledge the way youβve chosen to represent the βvillainsβ of the subject matter, namely those hands. They represent a unique way of embodying all the different aspects of what naysayers have against oneβs Art and their wish to be an Artist.
Top Left: βThis is how one should paint! Follow my rules! Your ideals are wrong!β
Top Right: βThis will not do! Letβs sweep away/cover up this silly ambition, shall we?β
Lower Left: Acts purely out of aggression. βI donβt like this Art, the Artist must be attacked!β
Lower Right: Doesnβt understand at all, and is almost afraid to touch.
Thereβs a key difference between those who are simply offering insight/guidance + offering opportunities to expand on our current skills whilst taking what we feel into consideration, and those who automatically view different as dangerous + have assumptions of what one SHOULD be doing. In my books, that adds further score to the originality; to create such a strong representation of an Artistβs enemies in such a simple form and concept.
But the main reason Iβve given this Art work a perfect score, is because to me, it represents the very essence of what it is to be an Artist.
From the moment we decide we want to pursue a life and career in Art, we are immediately on the path to being confronted by obstacles. Random critics and naysayers who think they know best are ready to leap in to spoil things for us before we've even begun and will pretty much go out of their way to crush our hopes and dreams by telling us we haven't got what it takes to live up to the professionals and belittle us for wanting to make a living out of our passions. But whatever mark they try to leave, it will never be enough to erase who we are completely. Every now and then we may discover we are actually good at something we originally wouldn't have touched with a 50 foot pole, and in contrast feel we aren't as good at something as we wanted to be (though that shouldnβt stop us from continuing to try, grow, and develop). Yet at the end of the day the choice is ultimately ours. No matter how many times others try to emotionally break us and cause faltering in our development, our determination, ambition, and passion will keep us going, and with time any doubts or hurts will be overwhelmed by that very passion, ambition, and determination.
In our own unique way, all us Artists are the Girl of 'Paint Yourself The Colours YOU Want', and that is why this is not only my favourite Yuuza Artwork, but one of my All-Time favourite Artworks ever!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful critique and i'm so sorry for this super late reply! I'm on a sort of hiatus and don't really have time to reply to most of my inbox stuff.
I'm really glad you like my art and this piece. The coloring of the skin was done very fast, in fact this whole drawing was done in a rush so that's why it's more sketchy, it doesn't have to do with style but more with the time i had.Β
I really like your interpretation of the eyes i did have a mix of idea of how to draw the eyes that is close to your interpretation
This was an idea i had, i had little time to draw it but i did just to get it out there, i had no idea so many people would relate to this subject.
This was just my own experience with art, and i really think that if i choose some other profession i wouldn't have gotten so many naysayers. And i think this phenomenon happens in all art related professions, people who want to be artists, writers, actors, musicians, they all get the same kind of people trying to convince them they'll never make it.Β
Yes, the choice is ours in the end and that's what i wanted to convey here.

It was a pleasue to critique it. No worries, I saw the journal entry that said you're taking part in Nanowrimo, so I understand. Hope that's going well by the way
Wow!Β It was a RUSHED piece?! Damn, your talent knows no boundaries, does it? Β
As someone who is both a wannabe Artist and Novel Writer, I completely agree with you. It is true, the Artistic professions are always the ones who seem to attract the naysayers like Flies to Sugar; which I think is a shameΒ because they have the power to connect, relate to, and inspire people. It's probably because all the other professions are so dependant on qualifications, whereas the success of Artistic professions can be affected by opinion alone e.g. a lot of people can hate a certain type of music genre that is loved by others. It can be a bit of a struggle to 'find one's audience'. At least that's what I think.

Vision:
I found this piece beautiful to look at! What I enjoyed was the grey hands trying to pull her into the gray oblivion of boringness (is that a word?) and sameness (I don't know if it's a word or not)
The rainbow hair was what struck me the most, it stood out and you could immediately tell what it meant, it screamed out 'I'M DIFFERENT! DEAL WITH IT' and subtly whispered at the same time, 'Beauty' and 'independent'.
The only problem was that it felt
I may not be the best artist, or the best critique, but I believe it shows so much, and yet it can be thought of as so simple.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars for vision.
Originality:
The art itself is original, yes, but the message it portrays is not as much, so, on account of that, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Sorry.
Technique:
The technique is what really stuns me, it is so vibrant and full of life, and yet at the same time it is cold, unforgiving and calculated, your technique is almost realistic, and yet surreal at the same time. It is almost like a dream, there but not truly there.
I give your technique 5 out of 5 stars
Impact:
This has affected me in so many ways, this has made me cry, and smile at the same time. It shows the fears and realities of artists and shows how much people try to bring you down. I found myself returning to this artwork over and over, and finding new emotions every time.
I give the impact 5 out of 5 stars.
Altogether, I found this work to be incredible, so out of twenty stars I give you 19.
Dream: *growls in agreement*

Vision: The first thing I noticed was the colour, and I will salute you for that. I just love the sheer amount of vibrant colours in the palette, and it really is beautiful to look at. Like a kaleidescope. Truly 5/5. I am... speechless.
Originality: I'll have to admit that the whole 'Colour Your Own World' concept has been frequently taken. However, I did like the whole painting *yourself* idea. It brought a spark of uniqueness into it.
Technique: I'm a sucker for painterly strokes. I'm fond of the alternation between soft painterly strokes, and the sharper strokes for the finer details. There's also the fine details applied to the work. The palette was well-chosen, showing the contrast between the girl and the others. It is well-drawn, and the anatomy is correct. And getting that right isn't easy.
Impact: I'll be honest, it didn't really give a full-blown impact, in my opinion, but it *does* send a meaningful message; despite the fact that people are trying to turn you into monochrome, you should paint yourself with your own colours. What really striked me was the tears falling out of her eyes. Why is she crying? Is she... painting with her tears? Her tears left a lasting effect.
All in all, kudos to you! This is a truly fine composition.

This one really speaks to me.
I had my natural hair color til about a year ago.
One day, my girlfriend was dying her hair and asked me if I wanted to dye mine.
I said... "I dont know."
And I asked her why she would ask and if she liked my hair.
She said, quite bluntly. "Its kinda boring".
I laughed really hard about that. XD
It was the small push I needed to show her the hair style I'd actually always wanted- purple to blue ombre.
I had always avoided it because i didnt want to spend money on my hair. Β Plus hair dye cost... Plus effort...
Anyway, she did it for me and taught me how.
Since then my reflection has cheered me up XD
So worth it.

I like it overall, but one detail that I love the most -- the tendril (drop? lexical gap, sorry XD) of hair that the girl herself is painting. I just love how truly liquid and satisfyingly paint-like it looks (!), not to mention the message it completes.

Its such a lovely piece and it tells the story of people who
don't fit in and don't want to fit in if it means being someoneΒ
who you're not. All these comments on this piece just proves
how everyone can relate to the girl struggling to be themselves.
