Amazing! Do you have any advice for beginners?

kessir In reply to MidnightRoseMiko [2018-01-19 19:15:45 +0000 UTC]

None that are specific, just very general ones.
First of all, if you dont have inspiration, download random brush packs for your art program. Try out the brushes, slam them on the canvas in various colors! Play he "What do I see in this cloud/shape" game. Inspiration often times comes on its own that way
Secondly, there is no "I can't do this". Theres only a "I'm too lazy to try and see IF I can do this" Try to do it, no matter if you think you can or can't. If it doesnt work, scrap it, try again.
Thirdly, it is very often much easier to start something again from the beginning than try to fix something. So if you're stuck, start with a blank canvas. Put the original one that you "messed up" aside, turn it around, close it, don't look at it.
And last but not least, try to dispatch of competitive thinking in art as early as you possibly can. Seeing others peoples art and being jelous or trying to outdo them as if art was a competition is toxic and generates negative thought. Create together, not against each other. Competition is for sports. Collaboration is for arts

I hope you find some of these helpful in any way

Thank you very much All is going well for me, but I've been a bit abstinent from drawing and focused on another project that requires less visuals

Tenchi8 In reply to kessir [2017-01-29 22:13:48 +0000 UTC]

Aw your very welcome.
I feel ya. I haven't gotten around to writing and drawing
yet, but now that the weather seems to be getting warmer,
I might be able to focus on it soon. My apartment was cold
and it made it harder for me to concentrate especially because my hands
gets cold easily. XD

I guess I take it that you'll be working on some writing?

kessir In reply to Tenchi8 [2017-01-30 22:04:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh I totally feel you with the coldness! I Spent a lot of time with my rabbits, who live outside, in temperatures bellow freezing (we had -10°C/13°F here for a few days) to the point where I couldnt feel my fingers for hours afterwards haha!

As for my current project: Sort of The final product will be an audiodrama, but the script for it wont write itself

Tenchi8 In reply to kessir [2017-01-30 22:34:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow. below freezing? That reminds me of those times
when I was working outdoors for the Salvation Army. I can't
believe I survived that. XD But then again they gave me hand warmers
which really helped allot. ^^

That sounds really cool. Will you also be voice acting?
When I was little I used to record and did voice overs with my
playschool radio, and used my mom's mix tape as my soundtrack
for my comics that I drew. I even mouthed the sound effects like the explosion
and the laser shots going "pew! Pew!" XD I used also draw one of those FBI warning
labels with a "This comic story is rated PG for Pretty Good." XD It was when I did
a fan comic of the Tiny Toons and my own OC was in it. XD It was fun times. ^^

kessir In reply to Tenchi8 [2017-01-30 22:58:56 +0000 UTC]

Lol! I used to do something similar, though I never tried to voice over my comics I did record myself and some friends on a voice recorder though haha
And yes, I will be voicing in them too. I actually already did an Audiodrama about 2 years ago that I voiced in (you can find it here ), but the writing was pretty bad - I only recently really got the hang of writing more naturally. So now i'm working on a big and ambitious project that my friend Caro (who also voiced in the above thing) and her boyfriend will play the main characters in. I've written 7 episodes, "sketched" another 3, but the scope of the project will probably be around 30 episodes (I'll need to put down the plot once i'm through rewriting the first 10 eps I already sketched out so I know how much content I'll really have). We already did tablereads for 5 of the episodes, which I even recorded (not to be released unless for special occasions, it was just to let the actors in on what the story is about and find their voice for the characters, as well as smoothen out any issues in the dialogue.)
It's tedious but I'm confident I can do this I've joined the audio drama creators community about 3 years ago and they're incredibly helpful, encouraging and inspiring people.

Oh hey! I remember the pic you made in your gallery of the girl in the
desert. So I finally got to listen to the audio story. XD Awesome! ^^
It was an interesting story, and shares a very deepening journey where
a divine voice guided her to find the very thing that she lost due to her
fear of punishment by the likes of a conforming society. It was cool
how she found her love one and saved her by singing. It was very deep
and shares how the very thing that we love, is the very thing that the world
needs. Once she found that substance of value, she was able to cross
over a bridge to become one of those who sing. It was enlightening and
thought provoking. The desert strongly represents the season of aimless
wandering, until reaching a turning point in your life, where hope and purpose
abounds and fears and boundaries are done away with. Overall this was really
enjoyable. Thanks for sharing this. I think you all did a wonderful job. ^^

The writing wasn't so bad. At least I didn't think so. ^^
The process of your next project is totally worth it. That's cool that you have
30 episodes already planned out. I have no idea how many chapters I will have for my
light novel since it depends on where the story leads as I write along.
The collaboration must have been a fun experience though. Great to know you're on sound cloud.
I actually happen to have an account there too. Only thing is I haven't posted any of my original
songs there yet. I haven't visited there since I created an account. I was a bit discouraged because I
wasn't able to record my music due to lack of a quiet atmosphere. I don't have a room of my own to do
any recording. I've only managed to record one song on my sister's computer in her garage band program, but
the music was incomplete. Since then, it was generally difficult for me to get around to it at all. I was just too busy with real life things. The usual pressures of my situations being so demanding. A little of many things all at once. It's a long story. Since my family lost our apartment, I was forced to "couch surf" from house to house for many years. The folks who accepted me were people that I have helped in their time of needs in the past. And they have only returned the favor. So I was very fortunate. I'm recently looking to get my own place, and have gotten some help in getting the needed paper works. It's a bit of a process but at least I am finally on my way towards being independent. I've been striving for it for years. Hard to believe considering how optimistic I've been the entire time here online. XD But despite my challenges, I never let my situation get the best of me. It's important to maintain a positive attitude. In many ways, I too have had my share of the wandering desert experience. XD So I can relate to the story in some way.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my little audio drama and caught all those little things of meaning in it Makes me really happy that you enjoyed it and that it stirred you to thought.

Also thank you for sharing your life situation with me. I'm sorry to hear your life situation hasn't been well I'm glad you managed to maintain a very cheerful attitude despite all that, its good when one has the constitution not to let your situation take control over your life. I hope it will get better for you soon, you deserve it!

Your very welcome. And thank you so much.
Being here with you guys online was part of the major thing
that kept me going strong. In my most trying times, I often
get sudden epiphanies in mid interpretations of you'rs and other's
art works and run off to apply that new idea or method and rather
successfully too.  I've been told by a number of folks in real life, that I'm
a lateral thinker. I looked it up a while back but I forgot what it really means. I hope
it was a good thing.
