Okay...I appreciate that your trying to be humble and all but there is a difference between being humble and fishing for compliments.
I get that you're not that confident yet with your own art and that's okay. NOBODY absolutely loves their art, people like us can only see mistakes to fix. That's what causes us to improve.
But when you're leagues ahead of someone else in a certain field and they try to compliment you...would it hurt so much just to accept it? Sometimes people are GENUINE when they compliment your art. And when you find excuses on not only why you don't like it but on why outside factors caused it to be "Bad" It just sounds insecure and needy.
I'm only taking this risk (telling you the truth) because I'm your friend and I care about you.
And you need to realize that this habit of yours is hurting the people around you at school and such. Imagine for a moment, Someone is impressed with your painting, say one of a flower. They compliment you about it and you turn it around going ON and ON and ON about how "bad" You think it is. It's not humble, that's you fishing for a compliment. At the other persons expense. This other person put themselves out there to tell you that they like it, and then you go off on all the reasons why the shouldn't.
Instead of deflecting praise, accept it. Accept it into your soul and understand that your art is beautiful in its own way.
Try and think about this...about what I've said. I think if you can come to terms with this bad habit, you'll be able to overcome it.
And I swear if you deflect ANY of the praise hidden in this message...
