# About me

I'm freelance designer, Robert Wiles, thanks for stopping by. My work is inspired by a wide range of sources: architecture, history, music, books, movies, and such, but I really get jazzed by many of the off-beat elements of the world, especially from the Atomic Age: tiki bars, pinups, burlesque & vintage smut, film noir, schlocky old sci-fi, classic cars, old signs, weird roadside attractions and things of that nature. This makes my work appealing to many vintage enthusiasts and retrophiles, as well as those of the rock-n-roll persuasion.

Xykon-7549 [2017-09-08 11:23:00 +0000 UTC]

A question if I may, what is your charge for the average logo design?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

66Robert In reply to Xykon-7549 [2017-11-15 13:04:08 +0000 UTC]

I apologize for the late reply. When I list them on Etsy it's $650, but if they want custom hand lettering or a mascot or something like that there would be an up charge. Part of the reason it's a little low is that with Etsy I get paid up front, saving me the billing hassle (which I absolutely loathe).

Hey Robert stupid question but I though you where the guy to come to, I found what I think to believe a piece of mid century architecture but I was wondering if you can pinpoint the build date judging by the style. You think, you can help?

Yes, I think it might be mid-century modern, although that really depends on your definition of the time period. I think traditionalists will say the MCM period was from 1946-1965. I've also heard some say that it goes back as far as the early 1930's. Personally I think it goes from about the end of World War II up into the early 70's, about 1974 or so. The reason I feel this way is that there were so many "left-over" design elements that were still in use after 1965, for example, the full length windows, which angle at the top to line up with the angle of the roof. I think there's always a transition period from one style to the next, and I think many of the home builders of that time would use house plans from the official mid-century period and then modify them a little. Another thing to consider is that this was long before the internet (at least as we know it today) and fashion and style trends took longer to spread out. When I was growing up it seems like Portland was always a couple of years behind. Also, I think this house may have had a little remodeling done, Specifically I think those windows are much newer than the rest of the house. Some of the elements remind me of a house that was across the street from us in the neighborhood I grew up in, and we moved there in 1970.  Anyway, My best guess is that this house is from between 1967 and 1973, although that is just a guess, and it could ego a few years in either direction. Overall it's a really cool house.

Cheers!
Robert

Oh wow perfect this is really great to hear thank you! Hah lol this might be the only piece I've found so far in my town. As for the rest ya I can see that as well there really wasn't a lot if that going on in the 30s at least where I am things were more focused on Art Deco, gothic revival and chateau style with a few modern elements sprinkled here and there. But yea I can see the design elements as well, especially when it comes to the roof. Plus with the house plans I can see that as well, I've seen some copy as well in the past. Oh ya true, where I am at least we never got any of the cool stuff like for instance when most places where using Art Deco we where embracing gothic architecture. And when ww2 finished MCM never got on a whole lot. Because going back to earlier this is like the only example I've seen so far. Every is just those rectangle aluminium siding house so this is a first for me to see one. So yay! Anyway. Oh ok gotcha, well shoot I guess as long as it's not anything to serious to the overall design then I'm pretty happy with that! But hey that's pretty cool that it reminds you of a house you used to live by! As for the rest oh cool neat well it's great to have a general range then, thank you very much! Glad you like it as well.

Have a good day.

Ps: You think you might be able to help me with some space age architecture?

Hey J5hsfUncharted,

What do you need help with regarding space age architecture? A lot of it has been demolished, but there is still some cool stuff out there.

Also, I ran across this earlier about mid-century modern design, you might find it interesting:  www.curbly.com/mid-century-mod…
