When the news of Connor not coming back came to me, I sulked with a couple of my guy friends all day. While we all liked the AC fandom, I never actually bothered to listen in-detail to how they felt about Assassins Creed III since we've all had our fair share of disagreements.
Being a girl I thought that they'd prefer the smooth guy that was successful in getting the ladies in bed (Ezio) and was more suave socially; so they'd probably jump at the chance of playing as a character who's more used to laying out a few jokes and basically being a more well known character trope. I figured that they simply liked AC3, given their responses though they felt something missing towards it. But when this news hit me, I was surprised to find them just as upset as I was.
What shocked me ever more was the rage of one of my friends had about Connor already being chucked away in less than 6 months. Now the ironic thing is that in this conversation, one of my friends happens to be Syrian and I happen to be mixed with indigenous Australian blood and another white with very distant ties to Italy though mostly Scottish.
Now my white friend who I will call "A", was the most huffy and puffy one out of all of us. And while we trying to get over the news, he suddenly made an unusual comment. To put it simply without all the extended dialogue and extra cursing he said,
"Oh so now I know what Ubisoft is doing here! They only give the Arab Guy one main console game, the Native American one main console game and the full on white boy THREE! Okay that makes f*cking sense! Yay! Hurray for majority white people in the world!"
Obviously, my he was in a very bad mood.
I was about to make a reply to him when he continued, "Oh and if they make the next main character a heroine. I'll be so upset as they'd be replacing Aveline for a fair-skinned, big boobed Asian chick! Hurray for stereotypical fighting video games!"
I hope Ubisoft proves us wrong.
And I'm glad that some of my friends love Connor enough to get fussy about it.

At first that's how I felt about the couple since people were shipping it before the games even came out and that just bugged the crap out of me. Not only that but I happened to get in a huge argument beforehand with someone that just had plain rude manners. Yet despite my experience my viewpoint of the couple changed after I actually played their games.
I don't want to ramble but they actually have much in common. They're both strong-willed and don't mind speaking their minds. Both being outsiders with mixed blood, conflict with parents and not truly having time to settle down. Their experiences are relate-able regardless of the distance. It may be far fetched but it has it's charm. For Connor to open up he'd need someone that can understand his problems. He seems to sympathize as well as empathize with people of color; he is Native, and they were just as mistreated as black people back then. Heck, they tried to enslave the Natives, but they weren't strong enough to do the work in the fields because they weren't used to bending over in the sun all day.
Gerald is your typical enamored sidekick. And as much as I like Dobby by the time Connor wants to have a family, she'll will be too old to conceive.
Their initial interaction may not have been romantic but it was basically his words that pushed her on. Connor's response to her question in Sequence 8 really pivoted her towards what she accomplished by the end of the game and caused her to have this firm conviction I almost wished was rampant in the majority of the game previously. Trust only your hands, it's a good piece of advice in a world where things become gray and you don't know who to trust. I'd like to think that Aveline remembered that.
Not to mention Aveline did mention to Gerald that they couldn't mix "business with feelings," and she does reject him a few times.
